Wood burning oven Pizza with flavoreful crust. I consider myself a Pizza connoisseur because I lived over a decade in Italy and have had a lot of experience here in the US. I am attracted by wood burning oven cooking. This Pizza is of great quality and as advertised, I love the Margherita make up, it has fresh tomatoes and true fresh mozzarella topped with fresh basil, I do believe this pizza can be better if they would sprinkle some olive oil on it and add some garlic to the tomato sauce, that would make it nearly perfect. The Pizza is the size of a dinner plate much like an Italian restaurant would have it. It was also cooked to perfection. Watching it cook I was afraid they were going to overcook it but they knew what they were doing and did a great job. I am sure all of their other dishes are great, I would give the Pizza a 7 out of ten only because it lacked some flavoring but the crust gets a 9 out of 10. I would return and when I do I will ask for the changes, at least for me. I cook my personal pizza's at 700-800 degrees and I like my sauce and toppings to have more flavor, a touch of pepper or oregano, a spay of olive oil and integrating garlic within the sauce makes pizza amazing. I was only picking up the pizza to take home but the ambiance seems casual and friendly, I love that the oven is the focal point in the restaurant. This Pizza beats most other...
Read morePros: -kids meals are appropriate size and fairly priced -cheese tortellini is delicious (according to kids and husband) -garlic bread pinwheels are yummy -Gluten free pizza crust has no extra upcharge -Friendly staff and quirky environment
Cons: -Side appetizer salad was disappointing size given how $$ it is -The staff, while nice, was not educated on if their house vinaigrette was gluten free or not -The pizza, both normal and gluten free, was surprisingly disappointing. Lacking flavor and floppy crust -The gluten free crust was floppy in the middle and burnt on the outer edges. When I brought it up, they did offer to replace it and cook shorter time but given how floppy it was in the middle already, I declined since it would only be worse in the middle -The garlic pinwheels are overpriced at $6 for 2 (normal garlic bread size)
Probably will not be coming back given the pasta options seem much better than the brick oven pizza, and sadly there are no gluten free pasta options.
I really wanted to like this!
Bill for 2 kids and 2 adults was just shy of $50 before tip. Have had much better meals for that or less...
Read moreI was in Indianapolis on business and I wanted to find an authentic brick oven pizzeria. Richard's was about 20 minutes south of where I was staying in historic Franklin. I've never heard of it and it was out of the way, but the pictures of the community looked nice and the food looked impressive. So I figured I'd give it a shot. I was not disappointed.
Everything is amazing! The food, the staff, the aesthetic of the building... I was absolutely blown away! To top it off, they had a beautifully lit, garden patio area in back, next to an actual reflecting garden that you could walk through and enjoy.
The only thing I regret about this trip is that I didn't make it earlier in the day when I could have walked around Franklin and taken in more of the beauty of this small community. It's shops, it's architecture, it's people... This is obviously the kind of place that deserves to be a destination for those who really appreciate what a community of artists and entrepreneurs can be. In what little time I was there I found myself inspired. So if you get the chance to visit, take it. You will not be...
