Wonderful night sitting outdoors with friends and just enjoying the conversation and some good food. I had the street tacos (steak and al pastor) which were good, but not great. The portions were ok and the meat was just too dry for me. The flavors were good and the side of beans and rice were perfect. The wife tried the taco salad and just based upon her comments it was very good, not great. No diced tomatoes in a taco salad? Seemed odd. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was hard to beat on a perfect Sunday evening.

I will make this short and sweet. You get 1 set of chips and salsa with a white sauce, after that it's $3 per set. Waiter was friendly and attentive, she swamped out my beer for another after I pointed out my first beer was flat. I ordered the Taquitos Mexicanos expecting to receive something similar to the picture in the menu. I received 8 1/3 size frozen walmart Taquitos, this was made clear by the machine lines on the bottom and top and their square shape (trust me I ate tons of these in college). In the middle was what looked to be a nice serving of guacamole, pico, and cheese. Unfortunately, this was a facade, because bellow was a mountain of shredder lettuce. My girlfriends burrito was all veggies no meat and tasted off (bellow is a dissected photo). I am not saying do not go, as a matter of fact please go but go knowing that you may end up with the same quality food as I. Fingers crossed they change up their ways.

This place has really lost some of its prior glory. I went in on Sunday and was only 1 of the 3 tables. The waitress was seemed bothered to have to be there. The food came out after a while, but was missing a side. No one ever came back to check on me during the meal, which means my water and drink was never refilled. The food was so-so. I asked several servers for my check as no one ever came back to the table. No one ever brought my check, so I had to flag yet another server down to get it. I finally got my check from the original waitress. Again, I was 1 of 3 tables and there were at least 4 servers standing in the back talking at one point. This was similar to my previous experience last month. Too bad. There are many other Mexican restaurants to go to in town and I won't be coming back.

Overall this is a very nice Mexican restaurant, and the portions are large. However, I like fresh made guacamole, and the guacamole here tonight served to us tasted like it came out of a jar instead of being freshly made with ingredients like fresh cilantro, green pepper, fresh cut avocado and lime juice crushed at the restaurant. Other than that disappointment, I found my cream chicken to be delicious. I hope this restaurant will start making fresh guacamole, because customers will appreciate the difference!

So when at Rey Azteca by Mary Washington. We asked for our second order of chips and salsa. It was refused to be given to us bc they said it was only the first order free. We had never had that problem so we asked to speak to the manager. He was rude and even though we pointed out in the menu where it said we get a second order he yanked the menu out of my husbands hand and repeatedly said ‘no no no’ he refused to give us the GM number. Also last time they stole money from our card. Adding money to the tip.

This restaurant have the best Mexican food around. We were on the road going somewhere else and decided to stopped. I’m glad we did! The food was great, the service outstanding and the portions were large enough to share with two people. The chips, salsa and guacamole were delicious! Surprisingly wasn’t to many people and we didn’t have to wait to be sitting. There is plenty of parking and so conveniently located in route 1, right across the University of Mary Washington. We definitely be back!
