This is going to be a lengthy review, so buckle in kids. Thanks to Disney, we knew " 'Ohana means family," so we thought this was a family friendly restaurant. We asked the gentleman seating us if we could have a seat away from the door to avoid the cold air coming in. The entire middle section (which one would assume is family dining) was open and he asked us if we were all adults and then said we had to sit at a table in the tiny section with cartoons directly in front of the door. The entire evening we were caught with icy breezes and were uncomfortably cold, not to mention overcrowded with the two LARGE groups that were also shove into our area had many small children that were screaming and crying. As more people came in, we saw that he seated toddlers, children younger than my son, and even BABIES in that middle section we requested prior to being relegated to the frozen Siberia for whatever reason. Fast forward to the food experience, I would not quite consider myself a "foodie," but I do enjoy fine dining and I am a very adventurous eater. Sushi is one of the things my family and I eat frequently, and we like quality. My son ordered the spicy shrimp, as a way to simply satiate that craving while being cautious ordering something like that from a new (to us) restaurant that isn't strictly a sushi restaurant (though it has it on the masthead). I will say $9.99 is not expensive for a roll, but I believe it was pretty pricey for THIS roll. The roll was almost entirely cucumber, sloppily wrapped, and drenched in the sauce. One can only assume the hefty dousing of sauce is a great way to cover up taste, but his palate is not as discerning and he'll eat anything (as most boys his age). He got about halfway through it before he tired of the sauce. I ordered the black bean veggie burger simply because that's what sounded good for the night and the menu was a bit overwhelming. I assumed that since this was a nice-ish restaurant ("$$" on Google) and not a concession stand it would be something they make in-house like most restaurants of their price range. That is my fault for assuming. What was served could only be described as a dry, broken, tasteless, hockey puck (but thinner) slapped on a stale bun. I could have bought a better quality burger at The Walmart for $3, and gotten 4 of them! To add insult to injury, I also ordered the onion rings (a recommendation of the waitress). As someone who has worked in food service, it's standard to bring out or at least offer condiments when serving these items. This was not done. I did ask for ketchup, but it was never brought, nor was the soy sauce my son requested for his sushi. I ended up having to ask another table that was finishing for their ketchup, and he just went without the soy sauce. Later, I overheard waitresses frantically searching for soy sauces and ketchups. I surmised they did not have enough for the restaurant. Other items that were ordered were the ribs, chicken skewers, and boneless chicken wings. The chicken items were fine, so I would recommend sticking to the chicken if you simply MUST eat here, but the ribs were very tough to get off the bone and not worth the menu price. The dining experience was significantly below the level I would have expected with a final bill of what we paid for four people. I don't mind paying well for a good meal and a great waitress, but ours was by no means good and our waitress seemed to forget about us until it was time for the bill. We were led to believe that the tiny section by the door was the only place we were allowed to eat in the restaurant with a 9 yr old, and later saw much younger children being seated in another section. I wouldn't recommend going here. There are several other places in French Lick where you can get much better service and a better meal for the same price range. We won't be making the same mistake...
Read moreHad a terrible experience today here. 1st and the last time I will EVER go here. The guy that sat us was nice, but unfortunately he was not our waiter. The waitress we had was not attentive to ANY of the customers. She dropped part of my son's sandwich on the floor when serving it to him. There were dirty tables all over the restaurant the ENTIRE time we were there. 3 servers and not even a full house, or even 1/2 capacity. There were always people waiting at the entrance because they had to wait for a clean table. My potato was under cooked. I had asked for a knife because the Gonalulu Chicken that I got was so tough that I couldn't cut it with my fork. I couldn't even cut the pineapple either! I had to ask a second time for a knife and because she wasn't paying any attention my son told her again that I was waiting for my knife. She then went and got a steak knife that I have butter knives sharper. It ended up shredding my chicken instead of cutting it. The pineapple still had the outside of the pineapple on it! I only had 3 bites of my $13 meal and decided I could get better chicken at McDonald's. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE!!!! $45 for the 3 of us to order food that we couldn't eat. My wife ordered the same thing but she actually had a butter knife with her for that she attempted to use. Instead of BBQ sauce, it tasted like straight soy sauce on it. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! It makes sense why none of our friends like going there. Legendz, 33 Brick Street, Miguel's, even McDonald's is better than O'Hara. WE WILL NOT BE BACK UNDER ANY...
Read moreIll start out by saying what was great. The food was awesome. Our server was Lisa, and she was also very awesome and friendly. Now what could have gone better. We were a party of 6 on thefourth of July. There was. a 20 minute wait to get our table which was awesome. We were seated at 745. Our server let us know while we were ordering that the sushi chef was not their normal person and they were running an hour behind. We all agreed that we had around 2 hours until fireworks started, so we were willing to wait on the sushi. We ordered appetizers and or entrees, and about 845 the server let us know that the kitchen was also behind now as she served us our sushi. When we asked bout how long until we get our food, the server checked with the kitchen and said there were 3 or 4 tickets in front of us. There were only 5 tables at the restaurant, and it was visible to see the frustration on their faces. About 930, 2 of the 5 tables got up and left without being served. Since we had already eaten sushi we didnt feel right just leaving so we continued to wait. Around 10 my wife asked to talk to the manager, which is a rare occurrence for her. We werent looking for discounts or free food, she just wanted to ensure the manager was informed what was happening, and to hear a “were sorry about that, or someone in the kitchen had a family emergency”. The managers name was Ryan. He was a jerk. He said “what do you want me to do about it, we got busy”
Great food and servers, rude and arrogant manager. Plenty of other great places to eat in...
