I had an incredibly disappointing experience at the Paris Baguette on Chapman and State College on March 6, 2025, around 8 AM. I've been a loyal customer since this location first opened, but after this visit, I don't think I'll be coming back.
While at the register, the cashier dropped a chocolate donut on the counter floor while transferring it from the tray to the box. To my surprise, she picked up the fallen donut with the tongs and placed it directly into the packaging box. I asked, "Could you please give me another one?" but instead of apologizing, the employee looked visibly angry. Without saying a word, she took the donut, rushed to the kitchen, and came back with a replacement. Her attitude was so intimidating that I decided to just pay and leave rather than escalate the situation.
After paying, I waited for my receipt, but she started assisting the next customer. Only when I said, "Can I have my receipt, please?" did she reluctantly print it out.
When I got to my car, I had a bad feeling, so I opened the box to check the contents. The replacement donut was noticeably smaller than the one I had originally picked, and the bottom looked slightly burnt. Out of all the fresh-looking donuts on display, I couldn't understand why she would give me one in such poor condition. I decided to go back inside and request a refund.
I asked another employee for help, but he said only the cashier could process refunds. When she returned to the register, her anger was even more obvious. Although she was wearing a mask, her expression and body language showed how much she disliked helping me. Her hands trembled as she processed the refund, as if she was struggling to contain her frustration. I was shocked that someone with such an unprofessional attitude was working in customer service.
I've been coming to this Paris Baguette regularly because of its convenient location and the friendly service I experienced when it first opened. I even told one of the employees how happy I was to have a location near my home. Although there are other Paris Baguette stores near my house, I always chose this one because the staff used to be so kind. Unfortunately, after this visit, I don't feel comfortable returning.
What concerns me even more is the lack of proper hygiene. If an employee is willing to place a dropped donut into a customer’s box right in front of them, it makes me wonder if similar things happen when no one is watching.
I understand that working alone at the register can be stressful, but that's no excuse to treat customers rudely. All I wanted was a clean, fresh pastry, and instead, I left feeling disrespected and disappointed. I hope the management takes action to improve both customer service and hygiene standards at...
Read moreThe two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. Mark Twain. Earlier this week, as I stepped foot into the French cornucopia of pleasures that is Paris Baguette, I found out exactly why I was placed upon this earth by the great creator himself - to consume the delicately baked goods and sip the sweet nectar offered at this unique paradise. As I stood there waiting in line to order, I couldn’t help but ponder the limitless possibilities laid out before me. My first time visiting this establishment? chuckles in amusement No. No, I’ve become quite the regular actually. You will too once you step foot into heaven on earth. As my eyes danced around the menu and it’s multiple offerings, my vision abruptly stopped at the words “Chocolate Hazelnut Cake” (with Nutella). A “slice of delight” it claimed. Well, I was ready to be both judge and executioner to test the validity of such a claim. A man like me puts the “I” in Indulgence and was ready to put the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (with Nutella) in I. I dared not take it home. Such a blessing is meant to be eaten then and there, while the hazelnuts are still freshly grounded in the back I’m sure. “Pour ici s’il vous plait”, I exclaimed to the cashier. I don’t know much French, but with every bite of food I take here, another French phrase burns into my cerebral cortex. Eventually I took a fork full of the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (with Nutella), and was burdened with an instant drowning sensation of guilt. I pushed the table back and immediately stood up, surely causing a disturbance to those in my vicinity. For that I may never forgive myself. I looked to the ceiling and cried “Who am I?”. Indeed, who am I to be so fortunate as to enjoy this creamy, sweet, and fluffy pastry laid out before me? How many souls have not yet been touched by the miracle of Paris Baguette? How many different ways can I say it? Over encumbered by the guilt, I took my leave. Left behind was a half eaten Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (with Nutella), a few tear drops lying on the table, and a note with the words “Thank you” written in blue ink, but nowhere near as blue as I felt inside at that moment. Please do yourself a favor and visit Paris Baguette at your earliest convenience. It may just change your life. Passe une...
Read moreThe pastry here is delicious and very expensive. I've been bringing their baked goods to meetings instead of donuts or bagels for years. Very popular with customers. New additional location in town and I've been stoping in at the new location in stead of the other. So, today at 7:30 am, PB has tons of hot dogs and pizza but nothing sweet and also non of the advertised jalapeño cheese croissant. So now I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go, poetically. The manager there was so rude. Tell me that they have no pastry out because there are only two guys in the back and that the pastry will start trickling out slowly over the next few hours. Hardly believable. Nothing "trickles out" of a bakery - they make this stuff by the tray full, not a pastry-at-a-time. The manager was just making stuff up. So, I just left empty handed and left the touched tongs and tray at the counter when the manager told me that they don't need my five bucks any way. I wish I could get outta that place for $5 - It always costs me $50. What really irks me is that I have been a great ambassador for PB, singing their praises and treating a lot of folks to their tasty stuff. I won't be back. This location, despite the high quality products, is NOT...
