State 48 Tap House — Restaurant in Gilbert

I really wanted to love this place and I've tried, been here about 5 times now all with horrible experiences with the services I've decided it's time to say something and have realized it's just how this place is. I arrived at 2:40pm on a Sunday. We walked in and there was a sign that said "please wait to be seated or see bartender to be seated." There were 2 couples at the bar, and 1 table in the restaurant area, so not busy at all. I saw 2 bartenders and 2 servers working. We stood there a bit and no one came over. So I walked up to the bartender and asked to sit at a table next to the bar and he said absolutely. He never came over and helped us. No one came over and helped us. We kept making eye contact with everyone. No menus, no greetings, nothing. The bartender knew we were there, he told us we could sit there, we were a group of 4. The bartender was on his phone, walking back and forth, moving bottles around trying to look busy. After 10 minutes someone brought us menus. After 20 minutes, another couple walked in and sat at the bar and we're served right away! There were now 2 bartenders behind the bar just talking and on their phones, not working. The server from the other side of the restaurant came over and took our order for drinks. At 3:10 we still had no beers, and the bartenders were just standing around, our beers weren't even poured. My dad walked up to the bar and said we'd been waiting 30 minutes for a beer and didn't have one and it clearly was not a busy day so he was confused why the long wait. The bartender apologized and said he'd get our server. 10 minutes later we got our beer. No one ever came back to our table to check on us. After we finished our beers we waited with our beers glasses for about 10 minutes and went up to the bar and ordered beer from the bartender. He didn't want to serve us and said he get our server. After complaining she'd never been around and never came back to our table (even though there were now no other tables in the restaurant we were it), he finally served us our second beer. We were the only table in the bar of 4 people at this point and there were 3 groups at the bar so 6 people! There were 2 bartenders and 3 severs now. Their service was beyond horrible! No one wanted to work, standing around in their phones, inattentive, and then passing off work to others when we tried to get anyone to help us. I am only giving this 2 stars because their beer is really good. Otherwise the service deserves 0 stars if possible. If you're willing to wait 2 hours to drink 2 good beers and never see your server and have to argue with someone to order, this...

Disappointing. The customer service was horrible, save for a server named Davon, who wasn’t even OUR server. I understand opening kinks when a place is having their soft opening, but there is no excuse for zero people skills. We were seated at 5:05, ordered a beer and cocktail right away. Server disappeared and he never came back to our table to give an update. A couple was seated after we ordered our drinks and they had a server named Davon. They had their drinks and a hot appetizer and we STILL didn’t have our drinks at 5:25. We watched another couple sit at the bar and once again get their flight and appetizer. Still zero communication from our server. We flagged another girl down who allegedly got a manager named Skyler. He was rude and condescending, saying it was newly opened and they were behind with so many tickets. Umm A), it wasn’t even that busy and B) no, it wasn’t because of a backup when other people after us were getting their drinks and food. Skyler’s comment-“all that matters to me is whether the food is good.” Seriously?? That’s not what an alleged manager should say. Customer service is key and no matter how good the food is somewhere, if the management lacks that skill and passes it on to their employees that’s a hard pass. Also, no, the food wasn’t that great. The grilled cheee I had?? Sonic’s is better and that’s sad. 😂 I asked for pickles and the girl who brought the food acted like she wasn’t sure if they had them and never came back. You know who brought them? Davon, who wasn’t our server. He’s the only reason we would come back here-and ask to sit at one of his tables. Maybe he should train the alleged management and rest...

Yeah I’m definitely not coming back. Five us went to State48 for the first time expecting a lot but walked out with regret.

Food

One of my friends ordered the Diablo burger, that is supposed to come with items such as buffalo sauce, jalapeños, and grilled onions. When the server brought the diablo burger, it did not come with any of it. So we had to wait another 10 minutes for those three items. The size of the burger was small and looked very sad for $15+ item. I recommend going to Red Robin, Chili’s, In and Out, etc. if you wanna get a good burger.

I ordered the fish and chips because the server recommended it and I wasn’t feeling a burger. For $19 item came with a small basket of cheap fries and two strips of battered fish. Very soggy and not cooked properly which caused me to have stomach issues.

My buddies ordered fried pickles and that took almost 30 minutes to receive.

Service

Our server kept messing up our order and our checks. I never saw any of the servers come around and help their customers. I was hoping our server would come around to get us refill our waters but I maybe got one refill out of the whole time I was there. My friends never had there refills.

I noticed the servers would hide in the back talking to other employees goofing around and such instead of helping us out.
