Posting this again because I dont see my original review. On Friday, September 26th, I had a very disturbing experience at the Sugar Bar in downtown Grand Rapids. We ordered a shake and specifically told the staff we would be splitting it with our two-year-old. Despite this, they served us a shake that contained 70 proof whiskeyâand my toddler was given alcohol by accident. The second I realized I was given the wrong shake I took it from her completely but by that point she had already chugged quite a bit of it.
This is an incredibly serious and dangerous mistake. Serving alcohol to a child is not only negligent but could have had severe health consequences. She was extremely pale, heavy dark circles and stumbling DRUNK! While accidents can happen, this level of carelessness shows a complete lack of attention to detail and regard for customer safety.
Parents, please be extremely cautious if you consider coming here. It was my 1st time there and will never return, and I hope the Sugar Bar takes this situation seriously enough to retrain their staff and implement safeguards to ensure nothing like this ever...
Read moreUpdate: Management reached out and we spoke via phone about this situation. They have addressed it appropriately with the staff member. They are working with a job coach to work with all employees and were open to feedback and resource recommendations in the area. I look forward to seeing changes in their practices.
Original Post: I was excited to visit as I saw that they are hiring individuals with disabilities. Having an inclusive work force is so important! However, I was disappointed to see that staff were not trained on how to respect and work with people with disabilities.
While talking with the staff one of the workers was very rudely ordered to âgive eye contactâ by her co-worker in the middle of our conversation. Then later during our visit the same individual asked me about her coworker with a disability saying âso, sheâs slow right?â
As someone very passionate about inclusion and accessibility I believe that representation matters. However, representation and inclusion without appropriate training for all involved can create negative experiences for individuals with...
Read moreI work in the downtown area and I always get to the area at least an hour before work so I can come into your store. What an absolutely gorgeous atmosphere, The young lady that always works days is one of my favorite people EVER! Her customer service is incredible. She always points out the new Gelato, and every time I come in, I try different Macaroons. You guys NEVER disappoint. I've never had a bad Macaroon. My usual order is a flight and 6 macaroons. I HIGHLY recommend this place for an afternoon meet up! However I placed a call today, 11/25/24 at 1:40 pm to speak to the young lady that's always there (I forgot her name) so when the phone was answered, I politely said, Hi, may I ask who I'm speaking with, and therr was a slight pause and the girl said "uh, a worker". So I asked to speak to the manager on duty and she said there is none. This was a business call, not a personal one. I've been in retail customer service for 20 yeara and I'm still stewing over this calk. Other than the terrible customer service in the phone, Le Macaroon is...
