Shipley Do-Nuts — Restaurant in Greenwood

In August I was moving my son into his apartment as he is a Lander student. I thought I would stop by Shipley’s and get he and his roommate a treat, before my way back home. It was about 7p. The door was locked and I just missed them closing. Oh well, I’ll come back my next visit. I always get an apple fritter and a bear claw. I grew up on Shipley in Texas. As I was driving away, a man opened the door and insisted I come in. I did as he was going to open just for me. Wow! I walked in and he loaded up a dozen glazed and two bags of donut holes. That was all there was left for the day. He insisted these were “on them” as these were going to be thrown away as it was the end of the day. They only make fresh donuts daily. What a treat! But more importantly, who opens a locked door after closing, waves at you to come in anyway, then gives you delicious treats as they were to be thrown away. That is why I return to Shipley each visit to Greenwood! And for my Apple Fritter of course.

And please try their Kolache’s. It’s a Texas Czech thing. I prefer the cream cheese cherry kolache, but I’d eat...

My husband and I both got Shipley’s as kids back home in Arkansas. When I heard that we were getting one in SC I knew we’d have to check it out. I got up at 5am to drive 55minutes one way to Greenwood to surprise my husband for his birthday this morning and it was so worth it! The drive was long but they did not disappoint. Different location but the same great taste we remembered. I barely made it to work on time this morning but again I say, WORTH IT! I was greeted promptly and served quickly with a smile. Definitely 5 stars! The donuts were flakey and delicious, kolaches just as cheesy and amazing as I remembered them being and you can never go wrong with apple fritters. We will be back again, hopefully not before...

We took a quick trip to Greenwood and stopped in for donuts and kolaches. Brought my three kiddos and we sat at a cute table inside the store. We tried a variety of donuts, and they were delicious! My favorite were the blueberry cake and lemon filled. Chef’s kiss to the kolaches! Don’t sleep on the kolaches, I tried the bold sausage with cheese, reg sausage with cheese, and the ham and cheese. The breading is like a delicious yeast roll and adding the cheese was divine. Wish we had a Shipley’s in southeast Georgia!
