I recently visited THE BALKAN HOUSE in Hamtramck for the first time after seeing advertisements that gave the impression of a great experience. Unfortunately, my visit was disappointing on multiple levels. Food Quality: • The bread was old and hard, and the fries were stale and hard so much so that my daughter told me she broke her tooth eating them. • The buns on the mini burgers appeared to be outdated as well. • The crêpes, which my children were excited about, were served cold and tasted very old. Our server mentioned they make them fresh every morning and that was far away from the fact, and crapes on the balkans are made the moment you order it not this morning and there is no way we eat it cold. Very disappointed. When I brought it to the server’s attention, she offered with hesitation to remake the dishes. While I appreciated the gesture, I declined.I just wanted to pay and get out of there. Service Experience: • During our visit, someone in the back was arguing loudly on the phone, using inappropriate language what was unacceptable. This was unprofessional and unpleasant for my children to hear. Pricing Issues: • There was a discrepancy between the menu prices and the amount charged on my bill. When I inquired, I was told that the prices had changed but were not yet updated on the menu. While I understand that prices fluctuate, it is essential for businesses to keep their menus current to avoid confusion and frustration for customers.
This experience was far away from what I expected we for sure won’t go back there anymore I strongly encourage the owner to address these issues, as they negatively impact customer satisfaction and the reputation of...
Read moreAt the Labor Day Festival in Hamtramck, I was getting quite hungry. I looked around and was deciding on a place to eat. I saw The Balkan House food truck and decided that would be the place to satisfy my gluttony. I ordered whatever the the polite man asking what my order was recommended (The Doner Kebob). After picking my food up, I walked a bit from the truck to a less crowded area and took a look at my food. At first I thought that it wasn't going to be anything special because it looked like a mess. HOWEVER, as I took a bite, the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover," took a new meaning to me. I was delighted by the taste of the large kebob sandwich in front of me. That day I went home happy, but I craved more. Because of this craving, I ordered a chicken doner kebob and an apple khalva sweet. My taste buds were like a kid in a toy store after stealing their parent's money. The juicy chicken filled my mouth, and the toppings with the sauce seemed like they were brought upon this earth for us to think of this dish. As I'm writing this, my stomach has never been fuller. After the blessing of the chicken doner kebob, my eyes gravitated towards the apple sweet. After taking a bite, my stomach seemed to be empty again with the irresistible desire to eat everything I saw. After doing so, I was so moved by the food that I'm now here writing this long review for my new favorite food place. Thank you for reading, and come by this place whenever you can because it's more...
Read moreI have been on the hunt for a good doner kebob since falling in love with them in Europe. A friend sent me the article that was posted about this restaurant and I just had to try it! I went on Friday and again on Monday because the doner was that good. The flavors are so on point and I am so happy to be able to enjoy a doner so close to home. The service on the other hand is pretty terrible. I have waited tables my whole life and the waitresses here act like they are in la la land as if they have no idea what is going on and for how busy they are they move with no sense of urgency what’s so ever. I have watched on both visits tables just sit and get ignored and there is not that many tables in the restaurant. I almost wanted to get up and ask if they needed help because it was so painful to watch. You do have to wait quiet a long time to get attended too and both times neither waitresses came back to see how my husband and I were doing or for refills on our empty glasses and I had to get up and ask for a check. I would hate to see this place loose business due to the service that is being given because the food IS SO GOOD! If you don’t mind the wait seriously check...
