My wife and I was in the area visiting our son who is at the local hospital. We were looking for some place that was open after 9:00om for some food. While we were looking at the reviews we saw that Abbey burger had quite a few recent negative reviews. This almost steered us away. However we were hungry and I wanted to let my flavor palette speak for itself. I'm glad that we only took those reviews with a grain of salt. Our experience at Abbey Burger was nothing like any of these reviews. It was quite the opposite. We struck up a conversation with the barmaid behind the counter with ease. She told us a little history about the town and some history about the restaurant. She made us a couple drinks and took our order. While waiting for the food she hung out near the bar and continued to conversate with us. This is just what we needed since we were coming from visiting our son in the hospital and needed something to take our mind off of it. Our food came out and it was time to see what all the negativity was about. I had the Diablo burger and my wife had the whiskey jam smash burger. We both shared bites from each other's burgers and they both were perfectly made and juicy. The burgers were delicious and we had zero complaints. I can't imagine someone having a bad meal here. Maybe we will have to come back a few more times just to see what these other people are seeing. Which is ok with me as long as they keep service burgers. Thanks to Destiny and Becka for helping cheer us up and feed us some delicious food while in town dealing with a tragedy. We will definitely be back under better circumstances in the future. For those of you reading the bad reviews, just go there and see for yourself. My mother used to like her burgers black off the grill and she loves her toast burnt. So everyones taste buds are different. My taste buds loved Abbey burgers.

Oh, to head back to the old HDG for a little fun with the family always warms my heart! As my sister and I were walking back to her car, she asked if I wanted to pop into the Abbey Burger. Once we saw the shuffleboard table and heard some tunes from the back, we were in! Immediately upon walking in, we recognized some old friends. I currently live outside of Chicago, so it is always a treat to see some surprise guests along my travels. Bartenders were very kind, prompt, and service with a kind smile. Old school Orange Crush fit the bill for me. Great flavor, fresh squeezed juice to order, which is always key! Karaoke was in the back, and when we walked back there, it was like the doors to the past opened more! All the kids that were friends with my siblings were there! Singing. Celebrating. Having the best time! Tons of talented singers to sing along with. Clean restrooms and floors are a bonus for a busy place! The coolest thing was the diversity. Obviously, I'm on one side as a parent and much older sibling. There were young and old people, parents and kids... of age "kids". Lots of townie vibes! We saw a minor altercation with a patron. Beer muscles and acting like a dolt but the staff was quick to remove him before things were too escalated. They made sure to ask if we were OK and made sure we had a good time. I wish we were there to have dinner, but next time, for sure. My family lives in town and they will be back sooner than later!

Initial Disappointment, but Appreciated the Owner’s Response We visited Abbey Burger during First Friday in Havre de Grace, having driven over an hour with high hopes after seeing their delicious-looking sample burgers at the vendor table. Unfortunately, what we received was cold, underwhelming, and missing the key ingredients that had drawn us in—no melted cheese, no lettuce, tomato, bacon, or pickles. Just a plain burger, with only mustard and ketchup available for self-service. With three hungry kids and two dogs in tow, we were incredibly let down by the quality, especially for the price. What made the experience even more disappointing was that we were genuinely excited to try this place—our daughter’s name is Abbey, and we thought it would be a special treat. But sadly, the food felt rushed and careless, something we wouldn’t serve even at a backyard cookout. That said, I want to acknowledge and appreciate that one of the owners, Marigot, personally reached out after reading our review. She offered a sincere apology and explained the unexpected challenges the staff faced that night. She also offered to send us a gift card to make things right. Her professionalism and accountability stood out, and we’re thankful for that. We haven’t decided yet whether we’ll return or pass the certificate on to a friend, but we do appreciate the follow-up and willingness to take responsibility. That kind of service goes a long way.

We had lunch on a whim, and we were very pleased we stopped at Abbey Burger. I decided on the Baltimore burger. It was delicious! The burger was cooked exactly as I ordered, the crab dip was flavorful as was the bacon. My hubby ordered the AJ10 which he was enjoyed as well. I snatched up some of his tots that were served with it, oh.my! They were crispy and yummy! The atmosphere was nice, and service was great. Everyone was friendly. The prices are as to be expected for the menu selections. I can't wait to go back. We had our second lunch at Abbey Burger and my husband found his new favorite.. the lamb Burger with sweet potato fries. My burger on a pretzel roll was just as delicious as the first time. Kids tenders were a win with our daughter. I taste tested myself, and they are crispy and tender. I did a byo on a pretzel roll, Angus beef, pineapple, sautéed onion, Abby sauce, tomato and pickles. It was cooked medium rare just as I ordered, so delicious. I enjoyed it very much and am already wanting to have it again. The service is slow the different times we went; however, with how crazy things are nowadays, we understand completely and it doesn't bother us, as we do know that everyone is struggling in some way. We also know that the food is worth the wait and our bellies are satisfied at the end. Good food with family quality time is always a good time.

I was da super excited to take teenage son out on a "dinner date." I chose this new place in town because well it was new and because we love burgers. He was super excited. We went on a night that it was storming and not busy. There was just a few ppl in there w/us. Our food did not come together. Mine came out wrong. The Chesapeake burger came w/o crab dip. So when the food runner brought my son's burger, I explained this to him b/c the waitress was not around (another issue). He brought my burger back w/so much creamy "crab" dip, that I couldn't even pick it up. There was hardly any crab in the dip. We continued on. Our fries were brought out later than the burgers. In fact, we were finished our burgers (after scraping that hot mess off). Could not get refills b/c we didn't see the waitress on this ultra slow night until it was time for the check/tip. I will say will will never be back. There are no excuses for poor service and poor food service when there's 6 customers in the joint. My son and I had good conversations and at the end of the day that's what matters. Very disappointed. Not worth the money. At. All.

I don’t write many reviews but felt like I needed to give a shout out to Abbey Burger HDG not only for a wonderful meal but also for excellent service. We were visiting from out of town and came in on a rainy evening in search of a decent meal. We got so much more! Delicious burgers (we all did the build your owns-they came out perfectly- the tater tots were amazing) and excellent service- it was the kind of place, if we were local, that we would definitely visit again. Fast forward to the next day when I realized I had misplaced my wallet. After a few panicked hours (and a drive 2 hours home), I was able to reach the restaurant who confirmed that my wallet was safe and sound there. Becky at the bar not only assured me that my wallet was in her possession and safe but that she would personally ship it back to me. I couldn’t get over her kindness and hospitality- I should not have been surprised, though, because that is how we felt the entire time we were having our meal there the night before. 5 stars all around. We’ll be back if we’re in the area again! Photo of happy kiddo enjoying his burger!
