Decided to try this place after avoiding it for years because it was never busy. Now we know why.
Red flags: Went in around 6p, and the place was almost empty. The condiment bottles had broken tops, and the cocktail sauce looked like ketchup mixed with relish.
Husband ordered the broiled catfish and a side of fried scallops. Looked good. Big portions. Catfish was bland but cooked properly and not fishy. Scallops were very chewy. He usually loves scallops, but only ate a few.
I ordered the Mayflower Fried Platter because I wanted to try several things. Portions were huge and looked good. The jumbo shrimp were very good, and the white fish was ok. The scallops were very chewy. The deviled crap was full of shell and inedible. The fried oysters were gooey, and the baked potato was covered in those little roots they get from being stored too long. I didn't even try the other fish because I was so disappointed and over it.
Neither of us finished our food or asked for a takeout box. Server never came back with our ticket, so we just went to the register and asked for our ticket.
Servers were nice, and having worked in service industry before, we still tipped 20%.
Pros: Big portions, good shrimp, & friendly server's
Cons: BAD scallops, oysters, deviled crab, and baked potatoes, no seasoning, outdated/sad decor and atmosphere that makes you...
Read moreThis Mayflower used to be a family go to over the years but however the quality has diminished in a way that is indescribable. We ordered wings, calamari and mozzarella sticks. The calamari was overcooked and , the wings tasted of fish ( reflecting the grease being refused), and the mozzarella sticks had enough grease to fry chicken for Sunday dinner. We ended up complaining only to have the same issue when the remade appetizers were brought back out to us. The steak was decent but not up to par with the price. The fried shrimp tasted of grease and batter. The French fries were not fresh. The cold shrimp tasted of fish water. This is disheartening considering how tasty their food use to be. Despite the disappointing visits prior, we decided to give this location another chance. However, this visit only confirmed that they need serious help in that kitchen. The only enjoyable part of the experience was our waitress MeMe, who did an amazing job as a server. Especially since she was the ONLY waitress there.
In summary do not waste your time or your money...
Read moreSoooo I waited a while before sharing my thoughts on my experience...to be sure that I wasn't just being bias because I wanted to try out another location(got voted out by the group). The food's appearance was gorgeous, the staff were friendly and honestly the fried food options didn't disappoint. Just don't order anything broiled or scampi style...so my broiled scallops were over done and under seasoned. Not saying to drown my food in every available seasoning and to make matters more interesting is that they looked absolutely appealing(false advertising). Speaking of looks...no shrimp scampi I've ever eaten has had a gelatin like consistency-until then..I will give credit for the fact that it was flavorful; once you got past the slime. So now that I've gotten all that cleared out please understand if you dare to order their fried Catfish, be sure you have a helping hand...it's unreal how large the portion is(my Bro-in-Love was the smart one) and be sure it comes with the ring hushpuppies which were equally delicious(no real surprise since they...
