This place hasn't been around that long, so I'd consider it a recent addition to Waikiki. The location isn't the best, but it isn't hard to find and it is actually nice that it is off the main drag. It isn't that big and I'd consider it cozy, but there is various seating to accommodate singles, couples, families and small groups.
Now, ramen is never top of my list and of course when I saw the place I rolled my eyes and thought to myself "not another ramen joint". However, they had their menu posted outside with great pictures and their vegan ramen caught my attention along with their Asian style desserts.
I entered and it was a bit busy, but someone rushed over to great me as soon as they were free and were very friendly as well as open to offering me seating options despite me dining along. I chose the bar, which was a great choice because it got me away from some of the noisy tables and it was rather peaceful despite having a view of the busy kitchen which just gave me something to watch.
So I did go with the vegan ramen, even though I'm not a vegan or vegetarian because it just sounded so good. My host/server who was actually the bartender as well asked if I wanted an egg in it to add as my protein which I thought that was nice to offer and not assume that I'm a vegan, but I probably gave myself away when I ordered the gyoza as well, LOL.
If you like creamy ramen, this is a total winner! It was fantastic. Lots of flavor and bits of yumminess throughout. I didn't leave anything behind. Their gyoza was very good as well. It was nice and crispy, so I know they didn't rush it like some places do. Had the the right amount of grease left, but not greasy and dripping. Of course the pork filling was perfect and not skimpy.
It is rare that I get dessert in a place like this, but their Asian style shaved ice looked so good and especially the Matcha & Azuki. Defiantly perfect to cleans the palate from the rich flavors from my ramen and gyoza.
So, getting to my host/server/bartender. Very nice young lady. Sorry, I forgot her name, otherwise I would shout it out. She was friendly, attentive and personable, which I'm sure may of you reading this would agree is a very rare trait.
Prices are decent, food is great, service fantastic. Go check this place out! I'll defiantly...
Read moreOur visit to Camado ramen was frustrating from start to finish. It started with being served unsolicited alcoholic drinks we never ordered, which were mistaken for water with lemon. When we realized the mistake, we told the staff we didn’t want them and explained why. Staff didn't even apologize for the error. In fact we apologized to them for accepting the drinks as they looked just like water with lemon a couple of times. Instead of apologizing for the error, the drinks were just taken away without a word in a very rude way, let alone an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. This dismissive attitude set the tone for the rest of the night.
The food was equally disappointing. The ramen came with only two thin slices of pork, and the rest was just plain noodles. In the pictures it looks like good enough pork meat but the pork slices were very very thin. The noodles were thin and perfectly cooked. For the price, it was underwhelming and not worth it at all. To make matters worse, I found a hair buried in the noodles. I was holding the hair and talking to my husband. We were almost finished with the ramen at that time. So I didn't want to send the food back. Right then the staff walked by and took the hair with him. There was no response for some time and later his response was dismissive and borderline accusatory. He first came and said the hair doesn't match our staff members. 3 of the staff members had long dark hair. The kitchen staff were visibly working without hairnets. He then came to us to give the check and suggested it might be my hair.
Throughout the evening, there was no effort to apologize or acknowledge the multiple inconveniences. The staff’s lack of professionalism, coupled with poor food hygiene practices, ruined the...
Read moreFeel bad to write this review but it wasn’t a nice experience at all. David who welcomed me was very nice and accommodating. I should’ve considered the most recent negative review when choosing this restaurant, but with so many other outstanding reviews, I decided to give it a try last night by walking 10 minutes in the rain. I sat at the bar but I could see all the dirt on the kitchen floor and I could smell the kitchen’s greasiness. The ramen wasn’t fresh and the broth was just okay. They put ginger inside the broth which I’m not a fan of gingers and the gingers to be served like that for ramen, the meat was thin as others mentioned, and the egg was disappointing the most, it was nearly a full-cooked egg.
I travelled to Hawaii thinking Hawaii would have top-notch Japanese ramen restaurants plus the ratings of this one are high, but the experience didn't even reach to any Japanese ramen restaurants in Vancouver in my opinion. One of the servers was coughing without a mask on while I was eating not too far from her, I didn’t see whether she had covered herself when coughing, but the 2nd time I heard her coughing, I glanced a bit by seeing her continue pouring whatever she was doing. I was shocked. Honestly, I didn’t even want to finish the ramen and tips, all I wanted was to leave the place as...
