I lived in Houston all my life even went to TSU around the corner and never ate here. I decided to eat here yesterday night. Baby when I tell you I was so disappointed! When I first walked in , it's no smell of home cooked food smh , noone was inside but yet staff saw me but took 5 mins to assist me. The food looked ok but not dang that looks delicious. I should of just walked out on them then. I got smothered pork chops, yams, mac and cheese and cabbage. First off the pork chops and gravy had no seasoning had to add a bunch of hot sauce to even taste decent to eat and the pork chops was mostly fat, the yams I had to add my own butter, cinnamon and brown sugar to make it taste good, it had no flavor. They so called award winning mac and cheese was horrible, I had to add more cheese and seasonings to make it taste good and omy goodness the cabbage was so bland was no seasoning, again had to add seasonings and vinegar. Baby I could of saved $24 and cooked my own dog gone food, cause I definitely cook better then this place. They need to hire me to cook and guaranteed the line will be around the building 😂. I will not be back, I hate to waste moneyy so I ate it. Oh the cornbread was ok not delicious and I'm a person who love their cornbread. Even Kelly's kitchen which is yt county cooking and they taste better then them and that says alot lol. I don't even know how this place is still open, I guess cause of popularity cause they was once featured in the Jason's lyric movie in the 90's which they make sure to remind you because of that poster by the door🙄😂. This is what I get for cheating on Mikki's soul food. They food so much better and so delicious. I go to the one off West bellort. This is it , y'all should be ashame of y'all selfs selling this trash! 😂. I think the people leaving positive reviews are old people , people who don't know what soul food taste like and don't know no better and other races who don't know no better either especially the ones on the...

"This AINT It", should be the name of this horrible, ghetto establishment. I went to get food here on Saturday, May 18, 2024, around 4pm, and the food and customer service was absolutely horrible. This is nothing new with this place. Upon arriving, my mother and I were not greeted, and the middle-aged black woman, with short hair, who was the only one working the food service line, was very rude, curt and rushed. She had the biggest attitude and had the worst look on her face as if she did not want to be at work that day, nor did she feel like servicing us. She has horrible customer service. I ended up getting the (1) baked chicken, which was completely dry and horrible tasting (even though it was sitting it what looked to be their version of gravy, but what in essence slop), (2) yams, which were not seasoned at all, (3) green beans, which were bland, and the (4) macaroni and cheese which had no flavor at all either. This was a complete waste of nearly $30 for nothing. While I am not surprised at the poor food quality and customer service at this establishment, because this was my 3rd time attempting to give them an opportunity to redeem themselves, this will be our last time ever servicing this ghetto, unprofessional, nasty establishment. I would have thought that over the years, the owner would have trained his unprofessional staff (including his son who use to work the register at one point, and who was the most disrespectful, sarcastic, restaurant worker I have ever encountered), and I would have thought that this feedback, along with the poor food quality feedback, that has been given to them numerous before, would have improved the overall experience of this place. However, nothing has changed. DO NOT SERVICE THIS PLACE!! They are RUDE and the FOOD IS NASTY! THIS AINT IT should be...

We came with friends after church. There is no service. None. The best service we had was from the older gentleman busing tables. Folks behind the counter wouldn’t look at us or speak, the young lady behind the register said “what you want” when we asked for dessert and rolled her eyes the entire transaction. I mean HORRIBLE attitude for absolutely no reason, even when we tried to joke with her to make her smile - despite the service she was giving. We thrive on giving others grace, but this just made no sense. All while gospel was playing in the background. Took the top off my dessert and let me just say - never in my life have I had peach cobbler soup, but that’s exactly what I got. Water, with sparse soggy breading and canned peaches (that’s probably why there was so much water in it). It’s nice that rice and bread are included with all meals and then you get two additional sides but the dressing was gritty and salty, black eyed peas unseasoned. Cabbage was tasty. Fish was crispy, but lacked seasoning. And we paid $70 for two people. I hate to put down a black establishment, but the service on top of everything just made for a bad experience. Maybe only regulars get good service, which is unfortunate because we could have become exactly that.

Good portion size for the price. Lots of menu options! Average soul food. Try it for yourself! Support a black owned business. The food is average but my experience was pretty good which is why I gave 4 stars. The place is cafeteria style. The staff seemed to get everyone’s orders boxed up quickly. I think everyone wore masks and aprons. The food was average. The fried fish was cooked properly and I like the batter they use. The noodles in the Mac and cheese were too soft and borderline mushy and it need d pepper. The cheese sauce was a bit runny. The cabbage was perfect for me (not too soft or too firm). The yams were not too sweet. The corn bread muffins were very dense and lacked flavor. The banana pudding was okay but the consistency was a bit runny. The vanilla wafers were soft. Everything seemed to be made from scratch which I appreciated. It would be nice if they offered real tater sauce for the fish instead of that oily pre packaged version but that’s not the end of the world. I arrived around 3:40 on a Friday. There was a line but we got through in about 15 minutes. Half of the restaurant was open with tables for guest to dine in. Staff quickly wiped them down when guests left.

What I received was good, but I may need to come back earlier in the day and not a couple of hours before closing. I ordered two different meals to have for later, but neither ended up being what I paid for when ordering online. I was really set on fried catfish with mac and cheese and cabbage, and then oxtails with mac and cheese and green beans. I also paid for a side order of fried chicken. I was told specific items were out and ended up going with an order of fried chicken with cabbage and green beans, and an order of oxtails with mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, and rice and gravy. Both also came with corn bread. I never received the additional order of fried chicken I paid for. I’m not sure if it’s a big deal to most, but when I crave something specific to eat and online it says it’s available and pay for that, I really just want to eat that and not have to alter my meal to compensate for what’s gone. I understand food runs out, but it was $60 and a 40 min trip from where I stay. Maybe a real-time update of what’s out would better help online customers. I will definitely be back again though
