So much went wrong, that I don't know where to begin. I think I'll tackle this chronologically. We came into the restaurant, and stood by the host/hostess podium for a while but busied ourselves with looking at the featured entrees on display. When they finally noticed that we were waiting (the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full at 4:30 on a Sunday), we were seated at a square topped table with our backs to the room. We just switched the napkin rolls so we could seat ourselves with backs to the wall and able to see the dining room. When I looked down on the floor between our 2 seats I was disgusted to see loads of food debri as though 3 toddlers had unloaded dinner on the floor. We decided to ignore this as we really like the food here. We asked the waiter if the 'Double Delight' had any bell peppers or paprika in the recipe. My husband is very allergic to these and has terrible GI pain if he eats even a little. The waiter hastily said, "no bell peppers in this dish". We have been hastily told this before, and the next day my husband says the price. So I politely asked the waiter to ask the chef to be sure. The waiter looked very miffed and said, " I told you there were no bell peppers or pepper". So, I asked the waiter, are you also a part-time chef here? He looks all put out but goes to ask the chef. He returns some while later and informs us, "no bell peppers". He doesn't address the paprika question, but my husband doesn't want to rock the boat, so we order his meal. Then I order and ask for the Mekong Fish - a favorite of mine, and I ask for no MSG. Now, I am not being demanding, it says right on the menu that if you don't want MSG just tell your waiter. He gets all put out again and tells us both of our dishes have MSG and they can't be made w/o it. I have always asked for no MSG, and it has been made to spec before. Why not today. My husband says, "the dishes with the MSG will be fine. My husband was very hungry and wanted to get the meals ordered, so we just gave him the order and hoped for the best. The food came after 15 minutes, and I must admit it was all very tasty. Long story short....i had a Whopper of a headache last night (MSG), and both of us have been in the bathroom all day today (the next day) with really bad stomach cramps and worse. The pros of Kim Son - tasty food, and they give a 20% discount with theatre tickets from the same day. Cons - the filth on the floor between our seats, the cheeky waiter, and the pain and suffering from their lies (about the peppers and paprika) and the refusal to make our meals MSG free. It will be a cold day in hell before we visit...
Read moreHeres the deal. I love Chinese food. And rhe website clearly states the restaurant doesn’t close till 9pm. I understand that restaurants like to stop serving at 8:45 and that everyone wants to go home. However, I hadn’t eaten all day. I was starving and thought you know I am going to stop off at my favorite restaurant and have something to eat. It was 8:35 which btw to me is not late. I mean there are sooooo many restaurants that don’t even think to close till after 9:30. I walked in and there were people inside eating and being served it was clear they were open. However, I stood in the entry way for several mins without being noticed or recognized. I was very disappointed for the first time ever going to this restaurant. The food is always so good and service is usually good as well. But for me not to be recognized or acknowledged for over 10 mins then when I walk around and ask for someone to seat me only to get told we are closed really upset me. I showed them that in the web site it clearly listed the closing time was 9pm and they didn’t care. They scuffed me off and said they were not serving any longer. Moral of the story; if you want to close early don’t, It’s poor management and business skills. I was jot the only person waiting to be served nor was I the only person hungry in that place. And I always tip 20%+ so …. I will not be returning to one of my favorite restaurants in Houston because of this situation. If you wanna close at 8:30 change your website cause as of right now you are falsely...
Read moreMSG!!MSG!!!MSG!!!! Really poor food. What kind of restaurant or reputable establishment still uses MSG in their food? The Chinese food in the malls proudly shows signs that display NO MSG, but no not this place. They have it placed on the bottom of every page in the menu. If they need to put MSG into their food to have it be flavorful than it is a shame to me that it was so tasteless. The food was very greasy and the staff was very loud. The restaurant was virtually empty and the staff was seated at the front table behind the receptionist as you walk in just talking and having a good old time. Talking about and I quote, “fat boy, you know, fat boy”. It was very upsetting to say the least that the employees would think it acceptable to be so obnoxious just because the restaurant was empty. As an individual who used to weigh over 300 pounds and lost over a 100 pounds I was very insulted that the individual found it acceptable to use the term fat boy so loosely in describing anyone as I had heard it so many times throughout my life. Many many many things wrong with this place and the food was just the start. The decor has not changed since I was a child and I am in my 30’s, the smell is disconcerting as one is not sure what could it be and the over all ambiance is something out of a low budget film. I wish it was a different story but nope. It was a very sad, insulting and expensive experience that I recommend no one else put...
