During the 90s and 00s I was a club promoter in the 6th and 3rd ward and have seen the decline of mom and pop shops over the years through gentrification.
So when my friends told me about a still surviving mom and pop restaurant in the 2nd ward I was super excited!
However, when we arrived we quickly discovered that the restaurant had been bought out.
There is a sign on the counter that says, all cash purchases get a discount. Nice! However, if you pay cash they don't have the right change and he will simply say, I owe you. Not good.
The old fashioned burger was good! But it was cookie cutter good. I've had the same burger in Stafford, Sugar Land, etc. Even my friends noted that it was good, but different, the magic was gone.
The chicken tenders were large, however, there was no sauce for them. When we asked about gravy he simply said, it's too much trouble. Not good.
What makes mom and pop restaurants so special is that they care! They want to give every customer an amazing experience because they love what they do! That's the magic! The connection. They may not have the largest profit margins, but they have the most loyalty.
This restaurant feels like an investment opportunity. Right on the cusp of 2nd ward and the ever expanding hipster EaDo that's taking over everything.
But I have no doubt that if it renamed 2nd Wards Original Sukos Burger since 1989, all the hipsters from the fancy coffee place 4 blocks away will...
Read moreThe food is different since the original owners left. The new owner is rude and belittling when you question the food quality. It's not Japanese style anymore.tgis new owner uses different ingredients and it is not the same, The burgers are lousy and half the size of the last owners. The chilli cheese fries came out with no chili or cheese and they got upset when we ask to get it remaid. The employees used my debit card info to track me down and called me several times and harasssed me over the phone .I have called the Health department and code enforcement as well as a few other places to see about getting them inspected. When we left the floors were sticky and there was food all in the floor and scattered on top of the tables. Absolutely filthy. The new owner had raw meat in the dining room showing customers his meat.Cross contamination is a worry and should be addressed. The only mistake was thinking you would keep your food and...
Read moreI LOVE THIS PLACE !! I was surprised the remodeling is finished, and Suko's is finally opened. I ordered a "Bulgoki Burger", and added grilled mushrooms and swiss cheese to it, then went to the "build your burger station", and added spicy mayo, mustard, jalapenos, pickles, lettuce, tomato, (it came with grilled onions). When I took a bite of this, EWE, Sourer-Belly !!!! My taste buds danced in celebration !! It was soooo Great !! I wanted to slap myself, BUT, I could not stop eating it till it was all gone. I asked the cashier, "what kind of meat was that ?", she replied, "it was USDA Rib-eye Steak, sliced thin, then marinated in her Korean Bar-B-Que marinade for 24 hours, then grilled with onions." They are opened Mon.-- Sat. 10:30 am -- 7 pm. and closed on Sundays. I am a Foodie, and enjoy finding unexpected treasures,...
