Not on Brand!

(Update: We’ve been back several times since and our views still stand. Slow, inattentive service. Smaller, disappointing and even more expensive dishes than other Barrios. Once again, Love the brand HATE this location, what a missed opportunity)

We frequent all of the other locations through the city being a go to for us. Usually good quality for a fair and affordable price.

This new location is super close and has a great rooftop patio…say no more! 💃 It was Saturday at 8 but not crazy: only at 80% occupancy and we sat at bussed but not cleaned table for about 15 minutes until we where greeted (not terrible).

Was a little disappointed in the demeanor of the waitress and we had to ask for the table to be cleaned where he quickly skimmed the table, throwing crumbs in our laps 🙄. Our party of 3 was given one menu to share, but we made it work.

Food: I LOVE Barrio chips and salsa but these were obviously cooked this morning and left out Or yesterday because they were Stale (never been stale at any other Bario I’ve ever been to).

We had to ask TWO different staff members for silverware and napkins AFTER the food arrived, to which we where only brought ONE napkin for the 3 of us… making the best of the situation we ripped it into pieces and just shared (at this point I wasn’t going to ask again).

The nachos where VERY anemic with little meat and shredded cheese that was barely melted & the same stale chips, the build your own tacos were decent but the tortillas where pretty chilly. And the Mini-Chimis where obviously done first and sat on the line for a while before served 🥶

We waited about 20-25 minutes for our second round of drinks to arrive and had to ask for water while we waited. Still love the drinks and they Are good valuel!

Unfortunately that evening there was a shooting next door at Brick House KC and everyone scrambled out of the restaurant to ruin the entire experience and probably not to return anytime soon. 🙁 While this isn’t the restaurant’s fault… it’s disappointing the insecurity anyone should have in this neighborhood since these occurrences only seem to be increasing.

Just take the short drive to another Barrio location and avoid this...

From my experience here yesterday, the food wasn't good. The drinks weren't good. The service wasn't good. But we had the pleasure of meeting the most fantastic service worker and for that reason we will give the Barrio service 5 stars, and we will give them another chance.

My husband and I sat ourselves on the rooftop last evening and waited a long time for menus and to have our drink order taken. Our server seemed to be unable to get our appetizers to us and everyone around me seemed to be this unhappy mob. There was a third server, however, who seemed to be the only one with any concern and she was taking on the responsibility of clearing plates from all tables and of running up and down the stairs every few minutes to bring food and other things needed by an entire rooftop of people. All while seemingly having her own tables to take care of, bartending, doing dishes, carrying tubs full of dishes etc and she had a completely positive attitude the whole time. Anyways, long story short, at the 45 minute mark of our experience, the food arrives cold, like it had been sitting for too long. We decided to call it and GTFO. Eventually we were able to pay and we went downstairs and on our way out the door, the server who had been so helpful upstairs identified herself as Britney and apologized for the service she saw us receive. She told us she is genuinely unhappy when she sees costumers leaving unsatisfied over something easily fixable. She proceeded to give us her entire work schedule for the week and asked us to please come in on one of her shifts and to request her by name, and if we did she could guarantee us satisfactory service and fresh food. It was such an admirable thing to see somebody with a genuine passion to provide customers with a good experience, even the ones that aren't their customers specifically. Thanks to server Britney we will give Barrio Taqueria another chance. An attitude like that can make all...

As a very long time hospitality professional, I was excited to try this spot out. Unfortunately we were very let down. This location has taken absolutely no consideration for the noise level. It is a concrete box with no sound proofing at all. Not only could our party not hear each other, our server could not hear anything we said so they kept getting our orders wrong though we were YELLING at the top of our lungs. We sat for 20+ minutes with empty drinks, were never offered more, and we were ignored when we attempted to flag our server down. The service was less than attentive to the point we had to get up and walk to the service station or to the bar to reorder our drinks and eventually had to go looking for our server to pay the tab. Our server was annoyed with us from start to finish and ignored half of our party when finally taking our order. We were NEVER offered napkins, cutlery, or water, even after our food was delivered. We had to seek out a food runner to bring us roll-ups so we could eat our meal and were still never provided with water though it was offered to other tables. Our appetizer was forgotten and once we reminded the server, it was finally brought out half way through our meal. After many years in the industry, I am not one to leave poor reviews. I understand every establishment has bad nights and I typically seek out a manager to mention potential opportunities for improvement but there was no management to be found over the 2.5 hours we were there and it was not a particularly busy night. I hope they recognize their shortcomings and seek to improve the overall service and atmosphere. Their good quality food and prime location could be a real money maker for both the establishment and service staff if given the time and attention deserved. I hope they...

My family and I had an exceptional dining experience at Barrio Taqueria on 31st Street. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and felt right at home. The restaurant was spotless, and we were lucky to snag a spot on the rooftop patio. The weather was perfect, and the view was pretty cool. We started with chips and salsa, accompanied by their delicious queso dip. I opted for the Tijuana chicken sandwich, which was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. My wife enjoyed some street tacos that were absolutely spot-on, and our daughter devoured her quesadilla from the kids’ menu. It was crispy on the outside and filled with cheesy goodness. Our waitress was fantastic, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Even the bathrooms were clean and family-friendly, which is always a plus when dining out with little ones. Overall, Barrio Taqueria provided a wonderful experience that left my wife and daughter beaming with happiness. If you’re in Kansas City and looking for a great meal with a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be!

Tried this spot for lunch. Big open space with lots of really big nice TV's. Sat at the bar. Ordered the loaded queso to start. Far more flavorful than most queso dips. Visible chunks of chorizo & avocado. Really tasty. The chips were seasoned perfectly as well. Just the right amount of salt. Then ordered a beef taco as well as a chicken & chorizo bowl. The taco was good. Pretty standard. The bowl, however, was very good. Bursting with flavors. Tasted as good as the picture looks. A great option if you are not trying to eat a huge tortilla. Tony was who served us from behind bar. Was pretty impressed with how he handled waiting on us sitting at the bar while also waiting on tables on the main floor of this place. He was engaging and never seemed rushed while taking care of us and everyone else. Definitely a pro. I will be back!

I ordered the (3) carnitas tacos but I believe I got the birria tacos instead, which is fine with me because I love both. The tacos were full of flavor and did not disappoint. The portions are rather large and the price was affordable---enough food for two if you're looking for a lighter lunch. The lemonade was phenomenal. It tastes almost like fresh squeezed lemonade so I downed three glasses with my meal. The chips were thin and crunchy and the cheese sauce was really tasty too. The interior was tidy and set at the perfect temperature, but not too cold considering it was 90° out. Our waitress was shy but attentive and she brought a new glass of lemonade each time before I had a chance to ask her for it. I would definitely try this place again if given the opportunity to.
