Really wanted to like this place but was disappointed across the board. We made reservations for 6:45 pm on a Sunday for our anniversary, went with the pre fixe menu, but the meal was so terrible we decided to end dinner before even getting to dessert .
Garlic bread: 5/10 The server really sold this to us and for $14, we thought that this was going to be the best garlic bread ever! It was far from that. Not only did it take 1 hour and 15 minutes to come out but it tasted and looked like it was straight from the Pillsbury crescent roll can (which is fine if we weren't paying $14 for bread). The only positive was the truffle butter that came with it.
Ceasar salad: 5/10 The salad was ok, nothing special, maybe a little on the bland side. This also took another ~25 minutes to come out after the bread so 1 hour 40 minutes into our dinner, we had bread and salad.
Carbonara: 6/10 The pasta was a nice al dente texture and there was a beautiful egg yolk on top to mix into the dish. What took away from the dish was that they used pancetta instead of guanciale and the pieces of pancetta were so small (seriously the size of minced garlic) and were all overcooked/burnt.
Gnocchi: 1/10 This was the worst gnocchi I've had in my life. I would even go as far as to say one of the worst restaurant dishes I've had in my life. My husband and I took 1 bite each and couldn't continue to eat it. It was undercooked and overcooked at the same time. The inside had a terrible raw dough texture. The outside was seared to the point where half of them were black.
Service: 2/10 Servers were nice but our waitress seemed really uninterested and rarely checked in on us. It was ~30 mins from when she explained the menu until we saw her again. Our waters were also empty 70% of the time. Lastly, she saw our untouched gnocchi and simply asked if she could box it up for us (usually this is a sign that there's something wrong?). It really didn't seem like she cared about our dining experience and she also didn't seem all that surprised by our feedback.
The pre fixe comes with your choice of an appetizer, salad, pasta and a shared dessert but after all the dishes we tasted and being 2 hours into dinner already, we told our server that we'd pass on dessert. She apologized for the experience and said that the kitchen was understaffed and mentioned that her manager may stop by. Unfortunately, no one stopped by but I hope that they can take this feedback.
This was such a bad experience that I'm really scratching my head at the positive reviews for this place. Even if this was an off night for their food, service wise and how they handled our dining experience, I would 100% NOT go back to Plate nor would I recommend it to anyone. There are so many other better places to eat in...
Read moreThere were eight of us and none of us had been here before. We had a reservation and they sat us in a room completely separate from the entire restaurant that was empty except for a party of six at the only other table in the room. Zero ambiance and kind of an odd setup. It was like a private party with two groups of people that didn’t know each other. There was something up with the tap water as it tasted horrible to the point where it was basically undrinkable. When we told our server, her response was that they had been told that several times that evening…and yet were still serving it to everyone. Her solution was to sell us bottled water, which she did. Everything took a long time: the cocktails, the apps, the entrees. When the drinks arrived, they were missing some ingredients because they were out of things like mint and instead of letting us order something else, they were delivered as-is and that was that. We got a couple different types of breads and they were pretty mediocre quality. Zero flavor and not great texture. The focaccia was a weird, gummy texture with flavorless butter. The Brussel sprouts were decent but they came with an odd hummus-like dip on top and that had the taste of absolutely nothing. Of the eight entrees, six were subpar. They were delivered cold or with little flavor or with hardly any ingredients. I got pasta with shrimp and it came with three small shrimp that were basically like the frozen, bagged kind from Costco and one big one on top that they somehow made totally flavorless. When the entrees were finally done, it had been two hours since we sat. Nobody wanted dessert; we just wanted to get out of there and go do...
Read moreTLDR: If you have nut allergies, please check your food carefully prior to eating. Food is good, but for the price I wish more care was taken to ensure food was safe for me to eat.
When I came in, I let my waiter know that I had a nut allergy and he was good at letting me know which dishes I should avoid. I ordered the Burrata antipasti and he said that was a good choice. It looked amazing when it came out and I started to eat it. It was very good, however I discovered that under some of the prosciutto slices they had sprinkled pistachio pieces and I had accidentally consumed some. I don't have an extreme nut allergy and I only break out in hives, so not the end of the world just a little discomfort. I stopped eating the dish and let my partner finish it. When the waiter came back I let him know and he apologized for the issue and would verify everything else I got would be safe. The arugula salad came and it was good. The pasta came and it was good. Then we picked our dessert, our waiter told me the desserts to avoid and some that could have the nuts left off. So we ordered a sour cherry dessert that came with an almond biscotti crumble on the side. He said he would make sure that didn't get added and he even wrote down a note to the kitchen to ensure it would be nut free. When the dessert came out, it had the almond crumble and I had to send it back to be fixed as soon as it arrived. It was a bit frustrating having to deal with more allergens, when they said they could accommodate me. Overall, the place had good food, but for the price it was probably not worth the benadryl I had to...
