I have never felt more unwelcome in a restaurant than I did at The Piggery. My service was undoubtedly the worst I have had in any restaurant in Chicago in the last 6 years. My server seemed very inconvenienced by my party’s presence. She was very short in her dialogue with us, and seemed irritated whenever we needed anything like refills or wet naps for the ribs we ate. Then there was my food: which was absolutely terrible. I ate a few bites of my pulled pork sandwich and a few fries. Not worth the money I spent in any amount. My server also did not ask even once if there was something wrong with my food since I was obviously not eating it and the fact that I did not want a box for such a hefty portion. As my party was waiting for the bill, an employee came out to the table next to me and asked if we were customers? As if it wasn’t obvious?? She asked why we were sitting there since it was “their” smoking area. And when I said that I was not okay with her smoking there while I was still consuming food & drink, she rolled her eyes at me and walked 10 feet over into the parking lot to light up with a couple other employees. It was truly the most disrespected I have ever felt as a PAYING CUSTOMER in my life. I have never seen such unprofessionalism. My party went inside to wait for our bill after the crew lit their cigarettes. All the while it appeared the manager on duty who had passed my table serveral times during our meal with dirty dishes, never once stopped to inquire about our food or service, etc. He seemed just as aloof as our server was, and frankly like he didn’t really care even IF he had been paying any attention. I am a bartender and am absolutely appaled that whoever owns this restaurant is allowing this sort of unprofessionalism to continue. I can get past bad food and poor ambiance. But when I feel inconvenienced by the staff at an establishment, it is clear that that business does not like money. I’m not one to write reviews; I never do actually. But this one is 100% warranted. I encourage anyone who has read my review to never eat or drink at The Piggery. It is poorly staffed, with poor food, and poor management. This is Chicago. There are literally hundreds of other AMAZING restaurants and bars to get better service & food at. Go to those establishments. Don’t waste your time, money, and energy...
Read moreI am so saddened abut what a disappointment this evening 's dinner turned out to be! I was so looking forward to this restaurant's re-opening, it USED to have outstanding food and great service. Evidently those burned up along with the old place. First, my boyfriend and I went there for dinner. I had been raving about this place, so we went this evening. The hostess was an utter witch and no, not for Halloween either! She got mad because we requested to sit at a booth. She rolled her eyes and led us to a booth and throughout our time there kept staring at us with a glare and shooting dirty looks our way. Next, our waitress was ok during most of the meal, we had asked for refills on our lemonade, ONCE. She disappeared for nearly 15 min. (I checked my phone for the time) she lagged with getting our check and at the end asked us, how was everything and we asked for the manager. She said well I don't know where he is, what's it abut. We told her it wasn't about her, but she got snippy and said, well I thought it was since you only gave 3 dollars on a 41.00 check!! THE NERVE! The check in fact was less than that in reality. One order was a take out for my mother, back at home, so you could easily subtract $ 12.00. And we were going to tip her more, but her service steadily deteriorated by the end of our meal, on a S L O W night!! And can you say RUDE? Since when do servers have the audacity to make a comment to a diner about the amount of their tip??!! I am 19, my boyfriend and I went out for a meal, we gave what we could, I didn't have MORE to give, but her making a comment like that was quite inappropriate! We did speak to the manager, and told him about the issues. The food was also disappointing. The fries were greasy and over cooked, the coleslaw was disgusting! They used to have awesome slaw and fries!! The firecrackers used to be 7 for $ 8.00 and now you only get 4 for the same price. I surely WON'T be going back anytime soon!! (Thanks mom for letting me use your account to post this, the Piggery should have stayed CLOSED, the memory was better than the pathetic...
Read moreI wouldn't even give 1 star, but have to start somewhere.
Arrived Sunday afternoon on a Bears Game Day around 1215. We have never been to The Piggery, but always wanted to check it out. 1st strike... no one to greet and seat. Waited for few minutes then finally directed to a two seater high top, kinda' in a blind spot area. Was not asked whether we would like to rooftop it... there were seats there and the back room was inviting, but we took our seats, as place pretty crowded. 2nd Strike...No menus, ( or none provided, as I saw other people who arrived after us getting a paper menu). Had to do the QR code thing, which I despise. QR codes often are able to obtain your personal data...
Older shuffling gentleman was nice enough to bring us some water and condiments ( which are only good if you have food, or have ordered). Did not ask us whether we wanted a drink, or indicate someone would be with us soon. We are very patient people and realize current shortage of wait staff and especially a in very crowded bar.... but we were blatantly ignored while others who arrived after us were seated, and served drinks. 3rd strike... I waved to the bartender who was also serving outside of the bar area. She clearly looked at me, turned and walked behind the bar and I never saw her again except to serve other patrons.
So, gave it a few more minutes and decided we made a mistake, as it was obvious no one was coming to assist us anytime soon. We were hungry, and figured food would take about an hour or so and we could look elsewhere and get fed faster than this joint.
Worst part, I am disabled with very painful mobility, heart and lung issues and had to schlep a long walk from where we parked.
Will never recommend this place to anyone and will never return again. Too many great Chicago bars that have class staff and service.
Ended up going to one of our all time favorites, Chief O'Neill's and had a pleasant, enjoyable experience!
