If you wonder why the parking lot of the Ram in Lakewood is so empty, it might be because of the poor management.
We have been to the Ram many times. Most often, we go for the fish and chips because it's really good. The service is usually pretty good, as well as the price. But tonight, I ordered the special with fish and chips (2 pieces), and my partner ordered the full fish and chips (3 pieces). When the food arrived, his pieces were very small compared to mine. He was eating his fries first, but I kept looking at it. He felt like he was getting less than we paid for. Then he broke it open only to find that he had gotten chicken--not fish. We got the servers' attention, and she said she would fix it. A minute later, she came back to tell us that she had to take it back to the kitchen unless we wanted to pay for the chicken. (NOTE that the fries were in the same basket being taken.)
So she takes his food, leaving him with nothing while waiting for the correct order. It looks and feels like a punishment for their mistake. She apologizes profusely, and because my partner can see to the kitchen, he realizes this was the manager's direction. But the manager forced the server to do his dirty work.
I was embarrassed for him being treated that way, and we felt awful that the server was being treated that way, knowing that it could have also affected her income, too. The entire time we were waiting, this manager kept glaring at our table. He never came over and apologized, we didn't get a discount, and there wasn't even an offer of a free dessert to comp us for the inconvenience.
People make mistakes, and we understand that. I'm not angry about the mistake but about how it was handled by the manager. I know times are hard, and I know some people take advantage of generosity. However, my mom owned a restaurant, and I also know how little the Ram would've lost simply being kind and gracious--how little in comparison to the lost business if they continue to treat...
Read moreAlright, so first things first, the server we had tonight was so sweet and amazing, she deserves 5 stars. I’m leaving her name out of this review because of what happened. The ram has changed their menu, that’s fine. I wanted a smaller portion of food, something light. I decided on salmon and mashed potatoes. As the system changed, our server was very accommodating and working with the system to get me what I asked for. Because she is amazing and great at her job. WELL, we get the food, it all tastes great, now it’s time for the check. Here’s where everything takes a turn. The MANAGER, went onto our tab and changed my order to the salmon plate they have on their menu. Which was $10+ more than what I had ordered. The MANAGER did not inform our server she had done this. So when I bring the price difference to our servers attention, the confusion on her face was genuine. After our server talks to the manager, the manger comes to our table to speak with us. I’m not one to try and work a menu to get anything I want cheaper, I just assumed these would be smaller portions. Essentially the manger is trying to tell me they “cant” change the price, all while giving me the run around, I stated I was not going to pay for the salmon plate, not to be rude but I was aware of what I was going to be Charged when I ordered my food. The manager then adjusts the price to even less than what it should have been... So evidently, they can and the business will continue on. but her telling me to “not come back and order that again” was extremely rude in my opinion. Clearly the salmon plate is aggressively overpriced, and that’s not the servers fault, or even the managers. But the menu clearlyyyyy states the price for an add on of salmon, and the price for a side of mashed potatoes. All in all, that was whack. Fix the menu, or fix the portions, you don’t have to be a genius to notice things like that on a menu. The company is still making profit on what I did order and pay for, just...

My kids and I are in town visiting family. My husband who is military and was unable to join us on the spring break trip head called to let us know this morning that our oldest furry family member passed away suddenly. It is my children's first experience losing a pet and being far away definitely made processing that much harder. We opted to go out to eat tonight in lieu of cooking. My brother-in-law suggested Ram because he had brought my husband to the restaurant earlier this year when my husband was helping them with their own military move. Both of the guys swear by the macaroni and cheese :)
The price was very reasonable for three older kids and three adults eating, especially considering we purchased appetizers, drinks and dessert too. I definitely think we would have spent more for a lower quality of meal had we gone to one of the more national chain restaurants like Olive garden or Applebees.
Towards the end of the meal my kids started getting upset again remembering their lost friend. They were teary and emotional by that point, but even at the beginning they were out of sorts - my middle son was actually quite rude and snappy when ordering which is wildly out of character. They aren't normally like this. As moms we often feel like everyone's watching how they behave- the spotlight of judgement whenever we are in public. It's a lot of pressure, but even more so when your kids are going through something significant. But our waiter was fantastic. He was consistently upbeat and kind. He managed to pull-off the art of being incredibly accommodating without being intrusive at all. It definitely made the evening better.
In short, our trip to Ram was the best possible outing we could have had considering the circumstances. Thank you for the hospitality and great food. I feel like we got to make good memories with our family on this vacation and I'm very...
