Home of the worst burrito I've ever had.
Before stepping foot in here, I had heard great things about this place. I was told they have great food for a great price. Those who recommended this place really talked me up so I had to see for myself what all the commotion was about.
I went in for lunch and ordered the Dry Burrito Lunch special with a drink. My total came out to $6 and some change not including tip, so it was definitely affordable and I really like affordable. The lunch special came with the aforementioned dry burrito with beef, beans (topped with cheese) and Spanish rice. They also threw in some chips and salsa which is a nice touch considering I took my order to-go.
l opened the aluminum tray with my lunch and I dug into the burrito... I have never been more disappointed by a bite of food in my life than at this very moment. There was nothing but ground beef.
I was expecting to find sauce, cheese, veggies... literally any other ingredient you might expect to find in a burrito... It had nothing but ground beef. I even went as far as deconstructing the burrito to see if I had a poorly assembled burrito. Nope. just a sea of ground beef wrapped in a flour tortilla.
Now some of you reading this may be thinking... it's a dry burrito... what did you expect? I expected a regular burrito. They have wet burritos on their menu... A wet burrito is a regular burrito but it's covered in sauce and cheese. I expected a regular burrito... instead I got sadness.
The ground beef itself wasn't all that great either. It had a bland taste to it and had a grainer texture than what I'm used to when it comes to beef. The beans, rice, and salsa were okay. They weren't offensive in the slightest but not enough to save this meal.
I told the people who recommended this place about my horrible burrito and they all told me they don't get the burritos here, that I need to order (insert their go-to...
Read moreOh F@%K, where do i start! After searching the entire area for a place to eat. We choose this place. Wrong choice people! If a health inspector would stop in there and actually do their job. They would probably shut it down so the owners can do a deep cleaning! Either way, that would be my suggestion and it really needs to happen before someone gets sick. The food, hmmmm. Yeah the food was not great at all. To me it was very washed. By saying that. I mean none of the food the four of us ordered was authentic tasting at all. My family could cook circles around the food served here. We ate ONLY because we were super hungry after going to the football game. The bartenders need a brushing up on newer drinks. I took a sip of my drink and it tasted like straight liquor. I literally asked for a larger glass so he could dilute my drink down a lot. The nail in the coffin for me was the covers above the tables. OMFG!! The green canvas covers above the tables along the walls were SOOOO dust covered that they looked brown. If someone were to bump them it would be all bad. All in your food, hair, face, just nasty! That's where I say an inspector would probably or should shut it down for a deep clean. I literally had to stop looking around because after I noticed that, I didn't want to discover something else and get even more disappointed and discussed. I should have known as soon as i walked through the door. It was dark (in a creepy dark way), cluttered (in a bad decorative way). I thought I walked into an antique shop or a run down mom and pop thrift store. I am done. Not sorry for any of my comments!! Clean your play up owners of the Green Onion. To the people looking, i suggest keep looking in the area for a great dinning...
Read moreBest Mexican Restaurant in San Pedro! —and that’s saying something in a city known for both seafood and authentic Mexican food. With over 40% of the population being Hispanic and the city hugging the ocean, you’ll find no shortage of delicious options. I’ve tried three top spots, and while they’re all fresh, affordable, and authentic, Green Onion shines the brightest.
Here’s why: It’s the most affordable overall. It has the most extensive menu by far. The largest indoor seating area with a variety of options. Boots, tables, bar area, and so on. And they’ve been around longer than the others—which might explain the depth of their menu.
But a few things to note:
Service is hit or miss—sometimes attentive, sometimes not.
No house-made horchata, and their spiciest salsa is... well, not spicy. For a Mexican restaurant in California, that’s a little surprising.
So while the other places might win on spice and homemade drinks, Green Onion wins on variety, value, and legacy. If you’re looking for guaranteed staples done perfectly, or you value flawless service and bold heat—don't come here. But if you're after range, affordability, and local charm, this...
