I came here expecting a flavor experience, having read reviews of the famous Meatloaf Sandwich with MacNCheese @ Hilltop Tavern (Louisville, KY).
Service was lackluster, as if she had better things to do, even tho it wasn't busy at all. When I asked about the 'famous' meatloaf sandwich, she simply stated as if it were required scripting, without any emotion or upsell, "Yeah, it's good." I wish I had gotten her name so she could be called out and do better. When she collected the paper waste from my table she didn't even thank me, ask me if my meal was good, only "Is there anything else you need?" And I was required to prepay, meaning I had to pretip since I don't carry cash. She did NOT deserve 30%.
Unfortunately, the food was also horrible. It's famously good, according to reviews, but I found it incredibly bland. The meatloaf was very soggy and bland, which made the Texas toast soggy in places, and even tho there was a red paste, it was so sparingly spread on the toast that I could not taste it at all to determine what it was. Then, the mac-n-cheese was also bland and overbaked, with numerous pasta pieces that were tough and dried up as if overcooked, and the overall look was that of pasta that's left out in the air under a heat lamp for too long. I regret spending my...
Read moreSecond update four years later: So many meals ordered, so much in tips given. Servers at one Frankfort Ave restaurant hug me when I come in; I'm a pleasant, easygoing, generous customer. Still never eat here, though. Wonder if HT still employs douche bag. Wow, that was sooome bad service, huh?
Update: Keeping a running tab of just the food purchases plus tips that would have gone to HT and staff but for the terrible treatment. $133 plus $46 in tips. Did I mention I'm a neighbor and eat out a fair bit? And tip roughly 35% for excellent service, even for take out? For this ongoing review, blame the bartender more interested in getting laid by the chippy at the bar, telling the chippy he was putting her ahead of the actual next customer in line, the old lady standing there with her wallet in her hand ready to order $50 worth of food. Like one review said, "Food good. People yuck." I don't give money to yucky people or the businesses who employ them.
Yeah, the food is not so good that it's worth being disrespected by douche bag bartenders. Trendy place that won't be around long with service like that. Took my money across the street and will not...
Read moreGreat Atmosphere.. very eclectic. Rather warm and welcoming. Warm colors and unique diner/bar feel. Outfitted with lota of decorations and a bar that had a pretty good crowd. Many places to sit. Bars booths and tables. They had board games and connect four and foosball. Even two arcade cabinets. Sadly the Simpsons game looked like some retro basket ball game.
The staff was very polite and also welcoming. Though busy, they made you feel valued. Bar was fully staffed making sure everyone is taken care of. Even offer tableside service.
Though, I didn't have any drinks aside the free ice cold water, the bar looks fully stocked with plenty of options. They even offer tabs. I on the other hand did order food and if there is any take away, the Mac and Cheese is by far the best I've had outside of making it my own. It was creamy and fresh. I swear it's infused with jalapenos. Its delicious and worth the travel for this alone.
I look forward to coming back, its a cozy place that's welcoming. Bring a few buddies and relax with games, great good and company...
