First visit in years, probably because the last visit did not go so well either. At least they are consistent, it turns out to be a bit of Groundhog Day, if you will. First thing to hit us, or we hit it, was the large pothole in the entrance, the experience was downhill from there. Walking through the front door a funk permeates the air, a mix of grease and a damp musty scent from what might be a poorly maintained AC unit, assaults the nose, dropping the appetite a few notches. Ok, seated quickly so we can get past the unpleasantries thus far. Fairly vacant of customers, so thought, ok, must be early and should bode in our favor, bad assumption. Waitress was timely, however, a bit unpleasant, disinterested, and standoffish. Put off by our not being ready to order because what we came for was no longer on the menu which was still advertised on their website, and needing to make another selection in place of their menu error, she took our order. Waiting patiently [30 minutes] for two simple sandwiches and fries, only to find out, only fries for my wife’s order, the disinterested waitress failed to take my wife’s order properly. No apologies, no offers to make it right, or maybe put in a rush order for the blown original request, nothing. She returned only once to drop off the check, no thank you, no pleasantries or curiosity whatsoever. This may sound as though this review falls on the waitress, but it does not, Smokey Bones and their Parent Company are equal in this poor review, the store and its property are in disrepair. The staff is poorly trained or poorly monitored for customer service performance, either way, the results were the same. Nonetheless, the server must accept responsibility for her own shortcomings. Obviously, whether the Groundhog Day Phenomenon, a jinx, coincidence, or a habitual occurrence of Smokey Bones, there will be no more visits as we have permanently removed Smokey Bones from our list of acceptable...

Smokey Bones in Maumee is hands-down one of the best spots in the area for bold BBQ flavors, hearty comfort food, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Whether you’re coming in for a casual lunch, a family dinner, or to catch the game with friends, this place delivers every single time.
The menu is a carnivore’s dream — smoky, tender ribs that fall off the bone, perfectly grilled steaks, juicy burgers stacked high, and pulled pork that melts in your mouth. The sauces range from sweet and tangy to spicy and bold, so there’s something for every palate. Don’t sleep on the sides either — the fire-roasted corn, crispy onion rings, and mac & cheese are standout favorites. And if you’ve got room for dessert, the Hot Bag O’ Donuts is the perfect sweet finish.
What really sets this location apart is the staff. Every time I’ve visited, the service has been on point — friendly, fast, and genuinely attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they work as a team and actually enjoy what they do, which adds a lot to the overall experience.
The restaurant itself is spacious and modern, with a great bar area and plenty of TVs for sports fans. It’s the kind of place where you can unwind, enjoy great food, and not feel rushed. Whether you’re dressed up for a night out or in your weekend hoodie, everyone feels welcome here.
And let’s not forget the location — Maumee is a beautiful, well-kept suburb just southwest of Toledo. The area around Smokey Bones is vibrant with shopping centers, local businesses, and tree-lined streets. It’s a perfect spot to grab a meal before or after running errands, catching a movie, or exploring nearby parks.
Smokey Bones Maumee has become a go-to for us, and it never disappoints. If you love bold BBQ, great drinks, and friendly service in a relaxed setting, this place should be at the top...
Read moreEnjoyed Asia on 3/29/24 very much. Our team of ministry leaders and servants spent time here really enjoying a good meal together (lifestationtoledo.com) served by Kierra a few months back. We enjoyed the quick service and tasty food here. When we slip away from doing ministry (churchtoledo.com) and let someone else do the cooking this is the kind of service and food we appreciate. Update: The electronic era has ruined the good service until they figure it out. We visited but did not eat because a less than full restaurant resulted in a 45+ minutes wait time. We were asked if we had reservations. We did not and so put our name on the list. We returned to the car only to discover that on line 25 minutes reservations were available. We made one only to be told that we would still have to wait for the full 45 minutes plus a few additional due to having our name on the list and the hostess said that the restaurant does not take same day reservations. The manager who otherwise did a stellar job, claimed he had been trying to get this problem fixed and tried to explain away the issue but to no avail. He said that some, after being told they had to wait would try to get a reservation, which is exactly what we had done. We did not wait the length of the time but left so can't say if otherwise things would have been excellent as was usually the case in the past. Three hostesses were crowded together in the station and servers were not hurried. A few other leaving guests seemed melancholy. Many waiting seemed less than pleased. The manager insisted they were doing their best. Perhaps next time it will be good enough we can actually eat in a reasonable...
