Restaurant Huauchinangos Mexican Food — Restaurant in Mesa

This place was just okay. I was really craving a child relleno, after checking Yelp reviews (because I'm fairly new to the area) I decided to give it a try. I got chips and salsa when I sat down. The salsa tasted like that green chile from the can. (Not that I dislike that canned chile, but wasn't expecting the shortcut from a place with great Yelp reviews.) I got an alphabet soup as a complimentary appetizer. 😆 The broth was okay...and that alphabet pasta made me laugh. I had asked for shredded chicken on the chile relleno. When it came out, the chiles were definitely covered in shredded chicken, but were also floating in a bowl of broth (that tasted similar to the alphabet soup). I have never seen chiles rellenos served this way. I quickly pulled the chiles out of the soup, but it was too late. The breading was soggy, so I mostly pushed it off. The rice and beans were just okay. On the positive side, the strawberry lemonade was tasty and refreshing. My search continues for a good...

This restaurant specializes in dishes from the city of Huauchinango in state of Puebla in Mexico. The restaurant owner is very friendly and and always makes us feel welcome. Waiters are also friendly and do a great job.Food is yummy and very filling. I've made about more than a dozen visits to this restaurant. Every time I come with my family we eat in but there is pick up available if you'd like.I've had the pollo chili tepin and the tlacoyos with cesina, and the huauchitlacoyos. The huauchitlacoyos are really good but the sauce is very spicy, if you can't take spicy sauce I'd recommend something else from the menu. Just recently they added cucumber lemonade , which is really good and iced coffee...

Very authentic. I went to this restaurant because a yelp review described it something like "meal tasted like a little Mexican grandmother cooked the food" ... and this review held to be very accurate. The food is far from the Tex-Mex from a can you'd get at a chain, and the owner served our food with a pleasant demeanor. He took the time to translate the menu as neither of us had heard of many of the items, and made excellent suggestions based on what we enjoyed eating in the past. This restaurant is a perfect example of what a family-owned establishment should strive to be, and I sincerely hope they remain around forever so that I can take everyone...
