I grew up eating lunch almost daily with my parents whose business was a few blocks away from the Grant Bar, and whenever I'm in the area I still try to stop by for their delicious homeade specials (roast beef, meatloaf, pork roast & sauerkraut, and a meatless option on Fridays were their alternating specials and I'm pretty sure they're even offered on the same days as they were in the 1980s when our family diner there daily... I like to hope so anyway). They also have great marinated steak, chops, and while I never liked it, my older brother always ordered liver & onions. And you've got to save room for the homeade pies that the proprietor would make himself at 5am everyday until his passing, but that tradition was picked up by progeny and their partner, I'm told. Even if their not still made fresh that very morning by relatives, their cream pies (I usually get banana cream but had chocolate for a change last night, and it was amazing and large enough that I took half home with me). There were at least two times that I remember Millvale being badly flooded, and the restaurant being built atop the underground creek that then wraps around the border of the parking lot, The Grant Bar had to close for extended periods and the devastating damage had the town fearing they would not be able to reopen, so much so the one year dozens of neighbors assisted in protecting and eventually digging out from the mud out of neighborliness. The food is great, the staff is friendly, the small bar area has a nostalgic quaintness and I'll go there any time in within a few miles.
