J's Phillys — Restaurant in Mokena

I walked in expecting much more after reading other reviews. The young girl at the counter was very friendly. She rung up my order as "J" (I assume it was J) was on the phone (very obviously a personal call). After about a minute after I paid J told the person on the phone she had a customer. She then set the phone down and went in the back to prepare the food (no hand washing or gloves) grabs my bread with unwashed hands and throws some ingredients on the grill. A few minutes later I got the bag with my food and a thank you. I looked in the bag and wanted to turn around but just walked out disappointed by the handful of cold fries that barely filled the bag they were in. The sandwich was a little larger than a hot dog bun, unevenly filled with canned ingredients and I honestly feel the value for dollar was the worst of any place I've eaten recently. After eating a handful of cold fries and a not very tasty sandwich I thought I'd post this review. I don't like doing this to small businesses but I honestly...

First thing, out of the gate I will say the woman running the place was very friendly and welcoming enough to get 5 stars regardless of the experience with the food. I ordered a hot dog, pizza puff, and fries. They were out of fries! okay no worries, it happens, probably saved me from having a heart attack anyway. The pizza puff was delicious as usual, very tasty in fact. The hot dog was cold, like refrigerator cold. The bun was cold too. Usually the thrill of a Chicago hot dog is the steamed dog and bun dragged through the garden. The hot dog was tasty but so cold. I'm just being honest. It did seem like she was short staffed. I did return a few days later to receive my replacement hot dog and boy did she nail it. J was really good about the whole ordeal and made right by me. I will be returning soon as I have yet tp try the Philly cheese steak....

Amazing. As first timers, we googled food near us in the area. I love philly’s and he loves milkshakes. So we decided to give Js a shot. We were immediately greeted by J, the owner. She suggested we get the cheese curds, which were PHENOMENAL. She makes the dipping sauce from SCRATCH. I can’t even explain how delicious this was. A mix of marinara and heaven, beef juice? Peppers? Don’t know, it was FIRE. 🔥 she came out with a box of chips for us to choose from, I loved how homey this vibe was. I got a chicken Philly and he got the regular. She served us at the table. Both philly’s were so good!! I had to stop myself from eating it all - as the portions were large. It was perfect. Super cheesy and delicious. She imports the meats AND she has been a chef for over 20 years. Let’s gooo. We will be back. 🔥🖤 thanks J!!
