This review is less about the food and the overall customer service experience. I've been a few times over the course of my life and recall the food is on par with the adjacent Chinese Restaurants in the Monterey Park area (of course I have my favorites), but wanted to express some of my frustration trying to work with the staff who answer the phones.
I called in asking to speak to the Manager and someone who speaks decent English so I could further coordinate ordering food for 160 guests for a large reception. Just a simple quick conversation to introduce myself and inform them of the date the food is needed. Any further details such as number of dishes, types of dishes, etc. I wanted to invite my Caterer and the OCR Manager to speak in person at the restaurant and not do that over the phone.
I had this same call with 2 other Chinese Restaurants in the area and they were so nice and accommodating and understood what I was looking for. They were also willing to set up an appointment times with me to meet in the future and to talk through the details.
Instead at OCR, I am greeted by a very rude employee (not the Manager even though I've asked to speak directly to him/her) who is 1) not listening to me 2) constantly interrupting and talking over me 3) raising his voice over and over 4) eventually somehow turned it into some sorta argument when all I was trying to convey was that I wanted to set up a meeting and talk through the deposit and details. So so rude!!! OVERALL extremely poor customer service!
I was not rude or loud in any way and continuously kept trying to calm him down and to explain the situation. Instead he kept going on and on and on saying that I can't talk to the Manager, and that I had to just come in without setting up an appointment time, and that they wouldn't entertain the notion of ordering so much food without a deposit first, and the only way to even discuss preliminary info (that I had no problems having with other Chinese restaurants) was to just drop by unannounced. Makes no sense since the Manager may not be in or extremely busy at the moment.
And of course to top it off, he starts yelling LISTEN TO ME over and over when the majority of the time I'm literally listening to him yammer on trying to get a word in since he isn't listening to a word I'm saying. Then hangs up on me.
Word of advice, don't even bother calling in. Just walk into the restaurant. Make sure your wallet is full of cash. Then they'll talk to you. This establishment has lost all my...
Read moreI can't believe what we had last night for my husband's70th birthday banquet on 1/20/2018. The first course was a combination plate with char siu meat , cucumbers, jelly fish, some kind ham? and seaweed were putting together without any decorations; not even a carrot flower or any coriander. It looked like they were grabbed from the wedding party to pile up. The second plate Fried Pawn with Honey Walnut, they used to be glazed with Mayo but they didn't. They looked like unfinished product. The third plate was a pan fried Scallop & Squids vegetable. It looked like the lunch special plate small circle of pieces of scallop with squids, with snow peas, piled up on a plain circle plate. My husband was making his speech, I couldn't interrupt him and I didn't want to make the atmosphere so bad. I was very unhappy to see that this is the food that this famous seafood restaurant presented their banquet. Some of the food was good but some of the food was ok. The thing that I appreciated was that we requested the long life buns and they did. I talked to them this morning, they said that 's what they usually presented that way. I spent more than $500 and tips for $74. Is it worth of having it? I really don't know. It seemed they didn't mind spoiling...
Read moreIT IS CLOSED!!! Sadly, I had made a deposit for my wedding and only learned of their closing because the manager Peter called my fiancée to inform her. We quickly went to the restaurant to see the doors closed and equipment being picked up by vendors in the parking lot. No one would tell us anything about how to get our deposit back.
