Swede’s Cafe — Restaurant in Morganton

Cute general store and cafe above it. Food was good but service wasn’t the best. In all fairness, they were very busy, but we never had an official server (two people came by for our drink order and three came by to ask if we’d ordered yet) my ultimate bacon had only American cheese, no Swiss or pepper jack in sight, and the waiter delivered it to the wrong table. After the lady picked up my sandwich with her fingers and said it wasn’t hers, the waiter took it and brought it to me….kinda gross. 😖

The sandwich had only bacon on it, no lettuce or tomato like is listed. So I asked him to fix it but didn’t bother fighting for the right cheeses as well since the food took quite awhile to come out. My daughter also didn’t receive her chips, and once the waiter brought her some, we never saw someone again. I finally flagged down a waitress since I really needed a refill on my water and she said she’d bring some right away. 10 minutes later…no sight of her.

The food was tasty, but definitely not the best experience with...

First time there. We give the waitress a 10+ same as we'd give a young lady with the tattoos on her arms that works in the kitchen. Both very sweet and easy going. We felt at home with around those two (only) The restaurant was one of the cleanest we've ever seen. The other young ladies put off a I'm better than you vibe while trying to act nice. The food was barely warm and this includes the coffee. We both love a good scone and got a couple to take home with us. Big mistake. They were horrible! We could taste baking soda in some spots. Didn't eat them all. Threw a lot in the trash. I'm sorry to say we won't be back. The very friendly blonde waitress and the fact the place was clean including the bathroom is why we give it a 3 stars. If we could honestly rate the food it would be a 0. No need to contact us to try and get us to come back. Even the offer of a refund or a free meal couldn't lure us back...

The idea of this place is cute… the general store downstairs and then the coffee shop with food upstairs. But wow was this place disappointing. When we first walked up to the hostess and told her we had 7 in our party her response was “Well I guess I’m going to just go cry on my next break”. We were seated and ordered coffees and water. The latte we were given was ice cold ( it was supposed to be hot and was given to us in a mug but still ice cold ). We asked for it to be remade and it came back literally half full. We canceled the drink order and just waited for the food. They were out of French toast, they gave us a tablespoon of hot sauce for the whole table, never gave us napkins and the price vs quantity of food was very disappointing. It was just a very disappointing experience. I hope in the future they are able to improve in their customer service and quality...
