Austin’s in Incline Village feels like it was built by someone who’s done their time in the trenches—burnt arms, bad knees, and a Rolodex of every curse word known to man. Someone who actually understands the difference between “service” and “hospitality,” and gives a damn about both. From the second you walk in, you know—this isn’t another soulless, laminated-menu tourist trap. Inside, outside, bar stool or table—they’ve got you dialed in.
I kicked things off with a Bloody Mary—already a sensible choice when you’re breathing the same alpine air as Lake Tahoe—but then they dropped the hammer: chicken-fried bacon. Let me say that again, slowly, like it’s the winning lottery numbers: chicken. fried. bacon. I didn’t know this was a thing. Now I do, and frankly, I’m angry no one told me sooner. Sure, my life expectancy might’ve taken a hit, but my happiness index skyrocketed. It was so good I doubled down immediately. Then, drunk on bad decisions and sodium, I ordered fries fried in the same mysterious, golden batter. Whatever alchemy they’re using back there, they could sell the rights to McDonald’s and retire somewhere with palm trees and no extradition treaties.
The food was killer, but the two Bulgarian guys running the floor are what sealed it. No scripted pleasantries, no “how are we doing tonight, folks?”—just that rare, unteachable kind of service where you feel like you’ve been welcomed into someone’s home, not dropped into another Yelp review.
Geographically, it’s dangerously close to the lake—an easy stumble from the dock if you’ve had enough drinks and poor judgment. Austin’s doesn’t just feed you; it kidnaps you in the nicest possible way. It holds you there, makes you forget your phone, and reminds you that the best meals aren’t about showmanship—they’re about being in the hands of people who actually...
Read moreOur Family has been frequenting the area and Austin's for years. We have enjoyed cocktails, lunches and appetizers there on different occasions. last Wednesday we took a party of 5 in for dinner. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered appetizers, 2 Rib Eye dinners , 2 Chicken Fried Chicken dinners, and a Meatloaf dinner. The appetizers, Coconut Shrimp and calamari were over battered, over cooked and maybe needed to be fried in fresher oil. The dinners arrived in good time, but immediately we were less than impressed at the presentation. The two Women at our table who ordered the CFC dinners stare at their plates less than thrilled. One commented their plate looked sad. I have to say, in addition to irregular serving sizes, it looked like amateur night cookoff at the truck stop. The Prime Rib dinners were mediocre at best, luke warm, and hardly the flavorful tender steak you expect from a Rib Eye. I have to say one order was enjoyed, the meatloaf. I understand it's customary to serve wine in a glass that's around half full, but when the glass if way undersized to begin with, the portion was ridiculous. Maybe our experience was due to the lack of people seeking employment, I don't know, but 225.00 later, this family of 5, was left unimpressed and disappointed. I would have contacted the owners directly, but there was no contact info to do so. Plain and simple Austin's management, it was not a good meal. If Austins's cares to reply , I'd be...
Read moreOne of our fondest family memories of ski week over the years was coming to Austin’s for the incredible food and drinks. Admittedly, this review is written with that in mind so I am trying to be as positive as I can. Perhaps it was just an off night? We had heard that the place had changed ownership and was remodeled but that the food was still great so we were excited to go and showed up early – at 6 PM to ensure we got a table. In past years, you would have to wait in the little enclosed area. There was no need for that, as the place was empty, save for a large party of about 10 and a couple tables of two each. We were seated immediately. We ordered the martini, which Austins was famous for in the past. The bartender told me they no longer make the Austin’s martini but a smaller version of it. We ordered the calamari and the crabcakes, which were both served to us warm but not hot. It appears that the crabcakes were not homemade? My son ordered the hamburger, which he said was just OK. I ordered the Ahi burger which was cold. Our server was nice enough, as was the bartender. We left after about 45 minutes. Place was still relatively empty. Normally when we stay here for a week, we go to Austin’s at least twice – possibly three times. Based on this experience, hard to...
