Fabulous hotel right off Frenchman Street with generously appointed rooms, nightly jazz and an impressive bar.
Stayed here in late June. Our double queen room- 301- was awesome, spacious and well air conditioned with a really large bathroom and shower. There was plenty of room for four adults to be comfortable.
We loved the historic building, the gorgeous art and comfortable beds. The amenities, from the huge shower to the water closet toilet area with a separate door and the sitting area in our room made our stay feel spacious and luxe.
There is a lovely courtyard with a fountain and gated parking lot - they give you a key fob to open it -which was wonderfully convenient when we needed to drive out to the bayou for a swamp tour.m or over to St. Louis cemetery.
The days are pretty quiet around the hotel but if you like jazz, the nights are INCREDIBLE! Honestly, we could have stayed in the lobby each night and just soaked up so much brilliant music and not even gone out.
Each evening there was a stellar jazz performance in the lobby. Now, we were in room 301 in the main building and the show went on until midnight on Wednesday and Thursday and until 1:00 in the morning on Friday night, so be aware you will be hearing music until late at night at this hotel. But it’s great, so consider yourself lucky!
The hotel bar is great too. I had looked at the bar menu online and found some drinks that looked exciting but when I went they said they weren’t serving those any longer. The bartender asked me what I liked. I said “Fruity and herbal. No gin, not spicy” and he said “Say less!” And made me a delicious drink that I took to the lobby and enjoyed while the BAM Jam rocked my socks off!! Such an asset to have a bartender that is a bit of a magician!
Our one complaint is that, where room 301 was located, there was a food truck just below that shares the private parking lot with the Royal Frenchman. Each night this food truck had really loud, bass heavy music playing that thumped into our bedroom until 1 am on the weeknights and 2 am on Friday night. I don’t know that Royal Frenchman has any control over them, but it was frustrating and LOUD, so just be aware and bring earplugs!
It was a 12 minute walk to Jackson Square from our hotel which was great. I’d absolutely stay here again, for the music, the bar and the...
Read moreDO NOT STAY IN room/suite #127! I can’t speak for the other rooms but I booked a 2-bedroom suite and was put in room #127. Calling this a suite, in general, is a stretch to the imagination. What I stayed in was a dark waterlogged room that felt like a basement. The room was dark in general and the overhead lighting in the main “living room” area would just blink on and off so you couldn’t use it.
Housekeeping was also questionable and was not up to par. For example, there was what looked like someone had dropped a drink on the floor and it had not been cleaned up (photo attached). Also, the previous guest that stayed in the room before me must have forgotten their toiletry bag and left it hanging behind the bathroom door and it was STILL THERE when I checked in. Gross!
I know the hotel has great reviews but my stay did not meet any expectations warranting a positive rating especially when paying a premium for a suite.
Lastly, after a long day of traveling and upon checking in my credit card was declined due to a security setting that flagged the transaction as fraudulent — it happens! Unfortunately, between my phone not having good service and their wifi being spotty I wasn’t able to log in to confirm it was a legitimate transaction that I was making so I gave him another card to charge — that was declined also as it had also been flagged as suspicious. I ultimately just gave my debit card so I could check-in. That’s not anyone’s fault however the younger guy (with the dark hair) at the check-in counter completely made me feel as though I didn’t have money. It was extremely off-putting especially when you’ve had a long day of travel, and you’re accustomed to true New Orleans hospitality.
I’m understanding that people can have a bad day but making a customer feel worthless is unacceptable.
Based on all the above, I would not stay here again which is unfortunate as I have been a long-standing customer of their bar and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. Very disappointed with the price paid, room condition, and overall customer service or...
Read moreI had my wedding at The Royal Frenchmen and as a venue itself it was absolutely beautiful, however, we had countless issues with the new staff that was hired at the end of 2024. Two months before the wedding the owner hired an entirely new staff without giving their clients any notification. The last 2 months of wedding planning were the WORST experience, and I strongly recommend seeking a different venue solely because of the new staff. Despite majority of our wedding already being planned, the new staff still could not manage to plan the last little bit of our wedding. The lack of communication was incredibly frustrating and it was very clear that the new staff did not have the same skill level in wedding planning as before. I dealt with rude, disrespectful hotel employees that would not or could not help me and was even hung up on. I voiced my problems in an email to the new manager and never received any response which was pretty on par given the rest of my interactions with the staff. There were several mishaps on the day of the wedding that were all ultimately due to the failure of the day-of-coordinator to fulfill their job duties. I feel that if I'd had the wedding planner and day-of-coordinator I was working with initially, my entire ceremony and reception would have gone off without a single hitch. Part of the reason we loved the Royal Frenchmen and signed a contract with them was because of the initial wedding planner. The new staff made my last 2 months of wedding planning a living hell, and I can say without a doubt that I would have never signed a contract with the venue if I knew they would be the ones responsible for my wedding. The only way I would recommend the Royal Frenchmen is if you didn't opt for the all inclusive and hired your own wedding planner/day-of-coordinator. Though, even then you'd still have to deal with the incompetent, unpleasant hotel staff. The Royal Frenchmen is not what it once was and unfortunately I experienced it firsthand. DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING AT THE...
