I would like to start out by saying that I have been a fan of Uncle Chicken's food for a few years now, and I always enjoy the food that I get. It's why I chose to give this place 3 stars instead of 2. However, I am a little miffed by the service I got today, and I can't afford for it to happen on a regular basis. So I am writing to hopefully remedy the situation, but if not, then just to let people know to be cautious. It might sound like I am sharing a bunch of unnecessary information, but I am sharing it to show that I tried to contact the business about fixing it before putting it out for internet fodder.
Here is the TLDR version: I paid for something, didn't get it, and when I went to tell them about it, I was told I got what I paid for.
The full story: My husband landed from the airport at noon and wanted to pick up Uncle Chicken's for lunch. There was a group in front of us before we ordered.
I went and said, "I would like a chicken sandwich and a pound of gator bites with no fries."
The cashier says okay, inputs the order, and then switches with a blond girl to check me out. It cost me about $52, plus the tip I added. After a while, we were given our food to go. When we got home, we opened the food. We were given the sandwich and half a pound of gator bites with fries. (Picture included).
I tried calling right away to try and talk to someone about the issue, but the line went to voicemail 4 times. The fourth time, I left a message about this issue. I mention this because I think it is weird for a restaurant to send customers who might order over the phone to voicemail, and because there is a possibility that the number might not be accurate anymore because the voicemail says "The front desk cannot come to the phone right now, leave a message please." The number I called is the one connected to this Google listing, (386) 402-7439.
My husband says to take it back and tell them, and I say that I can't because I have a kid to pick up from school and it is out of the way, so he suggests that I try to go after and to take a photo, which is why I have a photo of the food. I didn't take it with me, because he would need something to eat while I was gone if he got hungry. We figured we would just be able to receive the other half pound.
The blonde girl that checked me out earlier was at the counter and I asked if she remembered me, and she said yes. I then explained to her that I didn't get the full amount of what I ordered, because I ordered a pound of gator bites without fries, and I got half a pound of gator bites with fries.
"Oh, that's because all of our gator bite plates come with fries," is what she says.
The other cashier did not mention that, but that was not the point.
So I hold out my phone, showing her the photo, and said, "Okay, that's fine, but I didn't get my full order of gator bites."
She barely looks at my phone and looks me in the eye and says, "Yes it is."
Which makes me raise my eyebrow at her, zoom in on the box, and say, "This is one full pound of gator bites?"
She doesn't even glance at it again before saying, "Yes."
And so I say, "Sorry for bothering you, have a good day," and I left.
But I was still bothered by it, because it doesn't look like a pound. When I got home, my husband was asleep, and the box was untouched, so I pulled out my baker's scale and measured it.
The scale measured it at 216 grams. There are 453.5 grams in a pound. They definitely only gave me half a pound. (photo proof).
I checked with my husband to make sure he didn't eat the food while I was gone, and he says that he slept the whole time, waiting for me to eat together. So I paid for food I didn't get, because a pound of gator nuggets costs $32.50, and half a pound costs $20.50. That is $12 of food that I paid for and didn't get to eat.
If you're reading this, Uncle Chicken, know that I tried to talk to your staff about the problem, and I don't know why she thought it was okay to tell me that I got my order...
Read moreFirst time trying Uncle Chickens in NSB. Saturday 11/9/24 was National Chicken Sandwich day. Chose to visit 'Uncle Chickens' for ONLY that reason. It's literally a takeout window (like a food truck), with some picnic tables outside with loud kinda reggae music which was cool. Most of the strung patio lights were burnt out, making for limited lighting and kills the outdoor seating vibe. Basically on the menu not all their sandwiches are served with fries and the chicken sandwich was one of those. Odd as you would think it would be their number one seller. With that said, we paid $15 for just a sandwich and another $7 to get a side of fries to split between my husband and I. We know we could have chosen a 'different' sandwich on the menu (which came with fries at a lesser price) but it was 'National Chicken Sandwich' day like I said, and this was a chicken place, if you get my point. We also asked for cups of water which are normally provided for free at any restaurant with a food order and they said they could only sell us bottles of water. We declined. They give you a little pager device to tell you when your food is done to go back to the window and self pickup, yet they ask for a 'tip' when you order and pay. I don't get it. When you pickup your order it is on easy to carry trays to be able to walk it over to your picnic table location. The chicken sandwiches were good, but nothing extraordinary like we were expecting from other reviews. We're foodies, and try new places a lot and have had similar size and quality for more economical pricing elsewhere. The sandwich was served with lettuce, pickles and tomato and packets of mayo. We used GPS to get there, & there's actually another Uncle chickens across the street from their location. Same owners with different food selections we were told. Fellow foodies this was a one and done visit for us. Sorry Uncle Chicken, not worth the hype. I hope this honest review sets experience expectations a little better. The best part of the meal was the guy at the window when we first walked up explaining everything. He's a gem, super sweet , and the reason we didn't walk away and go elsewhere. He's also the reason why you got a five star for...
Read morePains me to say this but I supported this place for years, ate here at least once a week when I lived in nsb,we moved hours away and would allways drive back because of how good it was.Today was a terrible experience, waited 35 min for our food, apparently there was a mix up with our ordering being giving to the wrong customer and they ran out of brisket and had to pick it up at a different location. We waited patiently because I get things Happen. The staff was very friendly and made it right by offering a free drink and rack of ribs. The only issue is the food was very bad,I’ve ordered the same thing for 5 years pulled pork, chicken and side of brisket.order total was $47.00 sadly I was very disappointed in the food, brisket was very fatty like a lot of fat,and portions where very small and was cold.also ribs where not tender they where very ruff and tuff, coleslaw was very watery and not good, the toast was good like allways pulled pork was good.over the years I feel like portion sizes have gotten smaller which I understand. But man I didn’t feel the love in the food I ate today and it saddens me because I used to love this place .Not sure if I’ll go back but as of right now I feel like I’ve been let down a lot, from the wait time to the portion and the cold food and quality of the food.THE staff was very friendly and did everything to make up for the inconvenience and I would of been fine with that if the food wasn’t cold and ribs over cooked and tuff and brisket being just fat with little true meat.Maybe I’ll give it a chance again but I won’t drive over a hour to eat this anytime soon hopefully it was...
