I was walking back home on a Saturday night when I saw this restaurant in my neighbourhood. Censored claim to be south Indian I went in with scepticism because I have been catfished too many times by Manhattan restaurants claiming to be south Indian. I am from Tamil Nadu therefore I ordered the Tamil Nadu’s basic yet hard to get the authentic taste items Upma (Rava Kichadi) and Curd Vadai. I tasted every element like I was Prue Leith from the great British Bake Off show or my hyper critical Appa (Dad). The vadai was crisp despite being immersed in the yoghurt. The yoghurt was tasty and definitely home made. This Tamil tongue knows that. The upma was like a hug. Very comforting and nicely spiced without overpowering it or putting any pungent spices .The accompanying condiments: the chutney was fresh - not carrying that stale coconut smell . I ordered the food pretty late at night so for a coconut chutney to be fresh so late is quite good.. The sambar was authentic - not the lazy kind made out of a mix and where they add the lentils and vegetables. This one was freshly made - the spices all ground with coconut, coriander seeds, red chillies, methi, and sambar powder and perhaps some other magic that the chef had up his sleeve, all with fresh tamarind (not the ready-made paste that smell smells like medicine). I am floored. Next I want to order idli and dip it in the sambar. Based on this meal, I’m sure the idli will not be the solid door stopper kind . It will be fluffy and delicate looking like edible full moon . The good news is that this South Indian restaurant is the real deal. They have a real south Indian flavour and a Tamil chef unlike most other “South Indian” restaurants in Murray Hill. The bad news is if I keep going there every day considering it is basically two minutes from my apartment I may give them all of...
Read moreMe and my friends just finished visiting time square and we were damn hungry. As we are walking by we just seen this place called Annapurna Bhavan , after going inside we just realized it’s their inaugural day.
Initially we had our suspicions on how the food gonna taste but once after we had the food on our table We were so Absolutely amazed by the quality and taste of the food (especially the samosa chat and rava dosa🤤). Every dish we ate tonight is deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. This place is by far the best Indian vegetarian food we had till date in New york❤️.
If you're craving bold spices, hearty comfort food, and a 100% vegetarian menu that doesn’t compromise on flavor, this Indian vegetarian restaurant is a must visit.
The service was prompt and polite, with staff more than happy to explain dishes or suggest combinations if you're unsure what to try.
Whether you're vegetarian or just looking to explore plant-based Indian cuisine, this restaurant is a standout👌👌. Flavorful, filling, and fairly priced it’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back.
Worth visiting👍👍 we will definitely visit this...
Read moreWe recently visited Annapurna Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant on 9th Avenue, New York — and it was truly a delightful experience!
The moment we walked in, the aroma of authentic South Indian food made us feel like we were back home. We ordered Dosa, Idly, and a variety of other vegetarian dishes — everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared.
The Dosa was crisp and golden, the Idly soft and fluffy, and the chutneys and sambar had that perfect traditional taste we’ve all grown up with. Each bite reminded us of authentic home-style cooking. 💚
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and homely — a perfect place for anyone craving genuine Indian vegetarian food in the heart of New York City. Truly, Annapurna Bhavan made us feel “at home away from home.” Highly recommended for all Indian...
