SUMMARY: An evening at Eulalie is pure delight. The experience is akin to dining as a long-awaited guest at a stately but comfortable home with a five-star menu. At the end of the evening, you’ll depart feeling that you’ve made new friends in co-owners Chip Smith and Tina Vaughn and been initiated into an intimate club. DETAILS: Reservations at Eulalie are made by telephone. You’ll speak to Tina to book your reservation. Reservations are typically booked a month in advance, but we were fortunate to be able to book on short notice due to a cancellation. Pro tip: Tina notes that tables may be easier to come by later in the evening — our reservation was for 8:45.
Ambience at Eulalie is classic, comfortable and soothing. Lighting is low and tables are well-spaced. Eulalie’s staff is warm and welcoming, offering solicitous and attentive service throughout the evening. In keeping with the setting, the menu is charmingly handwritten — cursive with a flourish. Pacing is thoughtful and unhurried, allowing guests to savor each element of the repast.
Eulalie’s cuisine is elevated American, combining touches of chef Chip Smith’s Southeastern upbringing (coconut cake) and regional ingredients (game, seafood) with classic technique. Meals are prix fixe with four courses (terrine, choice of appetizer, chef’s mid-course amuse bouche and choice of entree). Diners may add a dessert and/or a cheese course for an additional charge.
Our meal ranged from very good (terrine, appetizers) to superb (chef’s amuse, a remarkable fish soup; an excellent lamb entree; and an even more outstanding duck). The wine list is excellent — trust the staff’s recommendations. Having attended a birthday party earlier in the day, we skipped dessert, but look forward to coconut cake on...
Read moreAbsolutely the best meal we have ever had! The Passion and attention to detail from every employee here from the Owner Tina to the chef to the busboys is just extraordinary. More over the ambience and old world sense of style and class is wonderful. And the food is par excellence on steroids. The prices are quite reasonable given the level of perfection and quality. We shared the filet and lobster entrees which our server Craig was kind enough to plate for us. We also shared the most delicious beet and goat cheese starter as well as the ham and cheese tart. And each course we pared for us with a half pour of wine which was just right. And did I say how much we loved the seafood sausage in saffron sauce. Also just the simple bread and butter on the table was better than any I have ever tasted in Paris. The owner Tony made us feel like we were guests in her home. I can't remember another meal in NYC which was so personal and special. And I am glad that Tony requests guests dress up and show respect for the work of art that unfolds as you dine in her presence. The deserts especially the chocolate mouse were a wonderful way to end the most perfect meal of our lives. We can't wait to return to this magical spot in lower Manhattan where you will be transported in time to a meal...
Read moreThis small restaurant is a hidden gem on West Broadway, a shining star in the triangle below canal. We went there for our son’s birthday who is 14.The prix fixe menu comprises four courses each tantalizing the taste buds to the next. The wine pairing tremendously enhances the experience. Each course is served with a different type of wine that complements the food. I had quail as the main course which was out of this world. It was paired with a flavorful red from the Rhône valley. But a good food doesn’t necessarily guarantee a good experience. The service they provide multiples the joy of food. The servers, or should I say connoisseurs, make sure you have fully understood the menu. Their attention to details makes you feel special and respected. The silverware changes with each course. You will find your napkin folded back in shape when you come back from the bathroom. Their wine service is friendly, professional, and generous. Overall, this is a unique restaurant that would leave you with a pleasant experience to enjoy for sometime and to share with your...
