Let's start with the positive: the restaurant has a great atmosphere, good music, and friendly staff.
I definitely had high hopes for this restaurant but was left disappointed. We ordered Oysters since it was happy hour and the shrimp nachos as starters. The oysters were fresh and I did enjoy the nachos. My partner ordered the fish of the day, the Porgy, which was over salted but served fresh. I ordered fried fish tacos which to the eye looked very appealing but were super bland bland bland. I honestly think it was just fish and batter, no seasoning. My daughter had the fish and chips and by no surprise that was also very bland. She did enjoy the fresh cup fries but in her words "not even the ketchup can save this fish".
The Bill: We came purposely during happy hour so we can enjoy the oysters. When we arrived at the door the hostess asked how many, I said 3 and a half (since I had the baby stroller) and she sat us at the center of the restaurant. Apparently, there was a sign at the front that said Happy Hour at the bar. I did not see this and would have thought this would be something the hostess would mention. Our bill came up to over $200, I asked about the happy hour and was told "only at the bar". I would have appreciated it if this was mentioned by our hostess or at least the waitress who took our order of 2 dozen oysters. The assumed manager didn't even care to hear us out.
So no, I do not...
Read moreI have ordered from the Seamore's in SoHo before and have had generally positive experiences with the food quality. I was therefore excited to try this new location that opened up in Brookfield Place after it replaced Amada. Unfortunately, the actual dine in experience was rather disappointing and it was clear that the place was struggling from "just-opened" mistakes.
The service was just OK as our waitress took our drink and food orders somewhat promptly. From there, it took about 50 minutes for our main courses to come out - nothing elaborate as my fiancé ordered fish tacos with a kale side salad and I ordered the Reel Deal platter. To make things a bit worse, my fiancé's food came out about 5 minutes before mine so I had to insist she start eating given the long wait. The food itself was solid (though tardy) and consistent with our previous ordering experiences with the Soho location.
To cap things off, the initial check we received had double charged for the tacos and side kale salad. A big no no, especially with such slow service from the kitchen.
The actual space is really great and has a lot of potential with a fun outdoor area and an expansive bar. I just hope that the restaurant is able to recover from these...
Read moreGood place for lunch and lighter supper. I came here in the evening after the Van gogh exhibit.
The space itself is lovely - it's outdoors and they have string lights up for summer. Pretty mint green tables and chairs in a light, bright and cheerful space. A quintessential summer spot.
I made a reservation for 815 and got there at about 745 but they were good enough to seat us immediately. It didn't seem like they had too many people at that time. The waitress was cheerful and fun and definitely made the evening pleasant
I like that the menu is simple and has fewer options. I found the food fresh and the ingredients well put together with focus on flavors and complexity.
I tried the poke, the oysters, the lobster Mac and cheese and the monkfish main dish. I also tried thr walk the plank cocktail with gin. In all honesty I could skip the cocktails here. They weren't really outstanding but were a good match for the meal.
I would probably recommend the poke and the Mac and cheese. I had higher hopes for the monkfish but it was rather forgettable though I did like the veggies in the dish.
I'll probably be back when I'm...
