Me: "Kai (my son), what's your favorite food? French fries? Hamburger?..." Kai: "Sushi!" I wish I could have given the same answer when I was a kid. I have great memories of cheap and excellent sushi in NYC and I told Kai about it before going there... Unfortunately, nowadays, NYC is way more expensive than it used to be and sushi in particular seems super expensive. But Kai does not care about money and he wanted sushi... after a few days of choosing food without asking him, he got to choose and, of course, he chose sushi. Fortunately we had walked by a sushi shop called Sushi1 that has good reviews and sells $1 sushi... So we ordered in. I couldn't find any $1 sushi on their Uber Eats page but maybe prices are different when you order in. Anyway it's still quite cheap for NYC (we paid about $60 for 3 with no dessert and ate enough) so no big deal. When the food arrived, I must say I was not confident as it didn't look very good. But it's just the look: both the rice and the fish are fresh, tasty and well prepared. The yellowtail and scallion temaki probably was the less good item but it was decent enough. A good option to eat sushi on a tight budget while in NYC. Quality & taste: 7/10 Quantities: 7/10 Atmosphere: n/a Originality: 4/10 Ratio price / quality: 8/10 Service: n/a How I felt afterwards: 7/10 More on IG @runnerandfoodie

I ordered off UberEats. Usually restaurants increase prices on UberEats but Sushi1 did not- everything was exactly priced the same on the app as in-store! I got a bunch of hand rolls, a few regular cut rolls, some nigiri, and a seaweed salad. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I felt the seaweed salad was a standout because it was so fresh- I'm used to getting it old and slimy at other places but the seaweed salad at Sushi1 was great!! There was SO much fish in the hand rolls, really generous portion sizes, and the nigiri and cut hand rolls were really tasty as well. I love the concept of this restaurant- that I can pick and choose the pieces I want to eat a la carte, and not commit myself to an entire cut roll when I only want to try a piece or two. Thank you- will buy again!!

Great spot for takeaway! The price to quality ratio can’t be beat - especially on the sashimi and nigiri. Fish is really fresh and rice was well made. It was a little intimidating to order the first time since it is entirely a la carte and I took advantage of the variety of offerings but midway through ordering, I wasn’t sure I could remember everything I asked for! It might be nice if they had a little ordering sheet where you could fill out quantities with a pencil (kind of like dim sum). Bonus points for the packaging is 100% recyclable minus the film overwrap. Would definitely eat here again but might need to make a list before I arrive so I won’t miss anything :)

I ordered lunch from here yesterday and was incredibly disappointed. I first looked at the menu and pricing from their website and their prices seemed decent. I went in to place order and they had different pricing in the restaurant which were much higher than their website. I brought this up to the cashier and she stated that the website was incorrect. She said that the pricing on THEIR website was wrong. This is very misleading and they should work on updating their website so that other customers do not walk in expecting to pay a specific price. One other thing that bothered me, I ordered a shrimp tempura roll. I noticed that the chef did not top my shrimp tempura roll with Unagi sauce which I have never seen in my life. Once again I brought this to the cashier and she told me that I would have to pay an extra dollar for sauce that is already supposed to be on there. Overall the sushi was good but it wasn't anything to rave about. I am giving them one star because Google would not let me leave zero. I am not impressed with the way they run their business and I will not be ordering...

This place is extremely unprofessional. As an employee, if you’re not asian, you’re basically invalid. They constantly speak in their language, and will leave you feeling useless since they won’t bother making conversation with you. The break times are also extremely unfair as they will leave you working for almost 8 hours with no break. Furthermore, their owner won’t speak with you but will send her supervisor to fire you and do everything for her. She will let you show up, make that entire trip just to tell you that she chose someone less experienced. They don’t care for experience in this store, they care if you can speak their language even though their handbook says that they aren’t supposed to unless the customer doesn’t understand english. The food is even worse, it takes forever and if they don’t feel like making it fresh, they’ll give you sushi that’s been sitting there for a while in the fridge. They also don’t use gloves and constantly touch the food with their hands. Customers and future employees, don’t bother...
