I worked here before it was purchased by Hallmark and I worked there from the beginning when it was remodeled, and the bar top was put in all the murals and painting was done and I was actually one of the managers and I have been very loyal. I watched all the IKEA happy you put in and was part of all of that And then I had a stroke and after the stroke, I’ve been a very loyal at least once a week patron with my mother, even bringing my little dog Yorkie, and then one day I came in with my little Yorky and a tall, blonde haired manager had a whole bunch of attitude with me And then I saw him out in the parking lot talking on his personal cell phone. I haven’t been back since that was about a year ago and I tell everyone I meant not to go there because of it I tell people it used to be good and I have a strong emphasis on used to be good because in all the years I’ve been going there the menu hasn’t changed the specials don’t change. The food is excellent, but you guys need to switch it up. Change your menu. Bring a new chef something You guys have had the same menu since I worked there. Figure it out do something interesting sure, you’re pleasing tourist but locals don’t go there anymore. There is a reason you might get by on summer dollars for a few years maybe a decade, but it will eventually fail just like the restaurant that was there before and before that and before that all failed because they weren’t consistently changing their menu Nothing has been different since that place opened you can’t just lean into your Latin chefs and make everything spicy That’s what local ocean does and then they charge 50 bucks a plate. You just can’t put a pepper underneath the piece of fish on a mango and then make a sauce in the summertime and call it a special and charge 60 bucks that’s what local lotion does that’s not a special You can be more creative than...

Today my husband and I went here to try it again as we absolutely love Georgies. And said we should try here then. Plus there is outdoor seating for the dogs. I made reservations, specifically for outdoor told them we had dogs. They tried to seat me inside. No biggie. Mistakes happen. It took 8-10 minutes before we were approached at our table. Our dogs needed water. The lady sat after us, had already been served drinks and chowder before we received water. We spent $150.00 here, I would have expected a bit better. I asked for a piece of chicken for the dogs. Was told they had dog meals, never told the price, would have never spent $18 for a piece of salmon and a bunch of broccoli and rice. Prices need to be told ahead of time. We were never checked on one time after receiving our food, not for drink refills nothing, not to ask how the food was. I had to personally go inside and ask for our togo boxes and check, then go inside and pay. I spent less at Georgies and had the best service ever. If this restaurant is supposed to be the training restaurant, then someone needs some customer service help.
Now the food was absolutely fantastic, absolutely amazing!! Best clam chowder, steamer clams to die for, and the mac n cheese holy cow!! I could eat that every day!! GREAT JOB TO THE CHEFS!!! Thats why I give 4 stars this time.
When I go back for mac n cheese and chowder when I come back into town it will be for...
Read moreDecided to try dinner here during a recent stay in Newport, partly because it was within walking distance from the hotel and partly because the online menu looked appealing. It turned out to be an excellent choice! It was kind of crowded despite being fairly early in the evening, but we got seated in the quieter bar area and service was still prompt. Steamer clams are a must for me whenever I'm on the coast, so we ordered those and then decided on the fish tacos and the Newport Catch, both of which were made from the catch of the day brought in by a particular fishing boat. And both were absolutely phenomenal. My fish was so flaky it wouldn't even stay on my fork. The combination of flavors in both dishes was outstanding. The server was even kind enough to go back to the kitchen and get some more info on the baja sauce when we inquired about it; I'm gonna have to try to make some next time I have fish tacos at home. We also went ahead and ordered dessert, which we RARELY do at restaurants, and they were kind enough to pack it up in to-go containers for us to take back to the hotel. Hello chocolate lava cake with Tillamook vanilla ice cream. Oh, that's the other thing; so much of what this restaurant offers is locally sourced, and there's actually a big board by the front door showing all of their community and regional partners and suppliers, which I thought was really cool.
I will definitely be stopping here again next time...
