Just a typical Thursday night for my boyfriend and I - driving around figuring out what we wanted to eat for dinner. We Google what’s close to us and discover Chow Thai. Seemingly good reviews though not many in total, we decided to stop and check it out.
It’s 8p and they close at 9p and there’s no other customers in here and the parking lot is empty, leaving us hesitant to even go in. Through the window I see what looks like a buffet bar and I don’t do Asian buffet so I was skeptical.
We walk in and immediately welcomed by the hostess. We got to pick our booth and were given our menus.
First off, the menus are fantastic. There’s a wide variety of food here which made deciding a little difficult. We opted a family style order and we split everything. Plus, the sushi is made fresh to order which is very nice and it tastes fresh.
Egg drop soup was phenomenal.
Bang Bang Chicken - I would’ve ate the WHOLE dish myself.
Volcano roll was delicious and the baked tuna on top added a nice texture for me and hid the gummy texture of sushi rice that I struggle to get through.
Ahi Tuna roll, now I didn’t try this one because of the fish on TOP of the roll but my boyfriend almost killed the whole roll.
Everyone was super friendly and we got a lot of great recommendations from the other staff on what to try next. We plan on taking our family here when they come to visit in February.
Overall, so glad we decided to take a chance because this...
Read moreMy wife and I ordered our dinner from Thai Spice last evening for the first time since early March of 2020. Unfortunately last nights dinner was a great disappointment relative to the many other times we have eaten their food. My dish (the same one I have been ordering for years) had very little in common with what was my most favorite dish. The taste, texture and composition of the the dish seemed to be very Americanized rather than close to an authentic Thai dish.
I had "Hot Cha" (sp.) Which used to be a mixture of vegetables in a flavorful brown sauce with Thai basil, rhizome shreds and baby peppercorns with either fried or baked tofu. Last night it was 80% slice onions 3 small pieces of green pepper, 4 or 5 basil leaves, a small pinch of baby peppercorns and no rhizome shreds. The sauce was very bland and had none of the flavors of the previous dishes and the tofu was just large chunks of out-of-the-box tofu with no other preparation than stirring it in to the rest of the dish.
My wife had the Chicken Fried Rice which was as good as it has always been.
For dessert we each had a slice of coconut cake which was basically a white cake with frosting and a sprinkle of coconut on the top. No other coconut flavor what so ever.
I don't know what has happened to this restaurant, which was our favorite, but if our next experience with them is the same as last night, they will have lost a long...
Read moreVisited on a Friday evening for sushi and pad thai. The waitress said they were backed up for sushi so it would be about a half hour wait. We figured no big deal we'll order both and eat the pad thai while we wait for the sushi. Moments after putting our order in the waitress comes over to say they no longer have the inari for one of the items I ordered. When the pad thai comes out she informs me yet again they are out of another ingredient, no scallops for another roll I had ordered and yet again leaves me with the menu to find a replacement. At this point our waitress completely disappears for 10+ minutes. We needed limes for our pad thai and I needed a drink refill on top of needing to put in the order for my second replacement roll. After over an hour from the time we were seated our sushi finally arrives, minus the second replacement roll. Unfortunately it didn't end there, one of the rolls was made with masago when I asked for it to not be included when I ordered it. Yet again, the waitress was MIA so I was unable to bring it to her attention until she finally brought out the final roll, and at that time I had had enough and asked for it to be sent back and taken off my check. What should have been a nice family dinner ended up being a 2+ hour ordeal. Next time I'll make the trek to Indochine or hit Harris Teeter for some Rolls and make some pad...
