When Chef Tito first opened his restaurant, it was quite good. However, based on my experience tonight, I would say the standards have slipped. First of all, I don't drink alcohol. Most restaurants these days have at least one non-alcoholic beer on the menu, and many offer mocktails. When I asked the waitress about non-alcoholic options, she told me I could have water, iced tea or a soft drink. I ordered water. Regarding the entree, I ordered the Cochinita Pibil, which is billed as the chef's signature dish. The menu described it as "Pork marinated with traditional spices in a citrus juice base, slow roasted wrapped in banana leaves." When I received the dish, it was very unappetizing looking, nothing but a pile of meat cubes on the plate with a couple of corn tortillas wrapped in foil, dull yellow rice and a dish of beige beans. It was brown brown brown brown brown. It looked absolutely nothing like the picture in the menu, so I asked if I had perhaps received the wrong order? The waitress went to get someone who confirmed that I had been served the Cochinita Pibil. Hoping that it would taste better than it looked, I tried it. Now I do have to admit that the meat was tender, and I will overlook the fact that there were quite a few big hunks of fat because that's probably part of the reason why the meat was tender. However, the seasoning was lacking. I tasted no "traditional spices" and definitely no "citrus juice base." The taste was as brown and bland as it looked, and after eating about three cubes, I started feeling a little sick to my stomach. So I resorted to eating the rice to at least put something in my stomach, and it was bland, as well. I didn't even try the beans. This review is about my experience. My two dining companions did say they liked their entrees (although one said that his dish didn't resemble the picture in the menu). The one star I'm giving the food was for the churros, which were delicious. Have to add that the waitress was attentive but didn't seem to be very familiar with the menu. She had to keep going to find someone to get answers to our questions. Also I gave only one star for atmosphere because despite the fact that there weren't many other diners, the place was so loud we had trouble hearing each other...
Read moreI recently attended an event (Hunks) at Chef Titos. I would like to clarify that the event itself was amazing! The venue though was absolutely disappointing. We had paid for a private booth. After our initial drink order i had to flag someone down to get a menu. The food was terrible. The chips were stale and the cheese was awful. The tacos were okay but i asked for limes for 15 minutes before I gave up and went and got them myself from the bar. By then my tacos were cold. Then the waiter who brought the original drinks was questioning me on how I got food. He was very rude as I tried to explain another waiter took that order. It's not my job to keep track of the system they have in place. So I paid my ticket right then to satisfy him as I was missing the show trying to help him figure out what was going on. About 30min later the waiter who brought the food wanted paid also. When I explained to him I paid the other guy he was confused. He went to get the other waiter who claimed I didn't even though I showed the proof on my phone of the payment in my banking. Again I'm missing the show that I paid for VIP seats for. It's gets even worse as the original waiter comes back again and makes my friend pay for the drinks i already paid for!!! And he charged her $50. The only reason it would be that high is if he charged her for the entire order again. We also paid to go on stage and while we were on stage the restaurant moved all of our stuff from our booth!!! They then sat someone else there for the last 45 min of the show and made us sit in the seats in the front. I was tired of missing the show at this point so I just sat there and didn't argue. I think it all could have been avoided with better organization for the event. As it is I am very disappointed with the amount of money I paid for "VIP" to be treated the way I was and then charged so many times for the same things. I won't return to this establishment as I never even received an apology for the confusion and was instead treated as if I was in the...
Read moreI attended my friend's wedding here and have NEVER seen such shady and disrespectful behavior from a business. They double booked the wedding with a soccer game viewing party, both of which were supposed to be in the same space. The owners notified them of this and told them it was handled, and that they would have the space quietly for their wedding until 7pm. At 4pm, just after their ceremony, the owners put a soccer game on. Shortly after this, when the couple was coming back to enjoy their reception, people started flooding in and walking directly through their reception. When this was brought to management's attention, they said that it was never a private space, even though she was told it would be the day prior. As soon as the couple had eaten and started their first dance, the other party was shouting so loud you could hardly hear their music. The owner's wife then proceeded to make things even worse, claiming that the bride was "getting her party guests worked up over nothing" (mind you, saying this in front of her friends and family. On top of this, the owner was encouraging the loud and rowdy behavior from the other party, pouring tequila shots into people's mouths and cheering. The "event coordinator" also said that it wasn't her fault, and that she wasn't the coordinator but the event manager (not sure how that is different) and that it was someone else's responsibility to deal with it. Their wedding reception ended an hour early due to this, and the owners were not remorseful in the slightest. Highly, highly disappointing behavior by this business, and for them to not care one bit about ruining someone's wedding reflects how they run their business. Avoid holding any events here...
