I walked in at mid morning. Empty parking lot. One lone patron at a table. No hostess. No greeter. Two waitresses sitting at a booth. The cash register showed a sign “Wait to be seated.” So I waited. I had to ask if the diner was open. I was told,”Of course. What do you think.” Finally a “hostess” showed up to seat me. The other patron looked at me from his adjacent booth and said, “I asked the same question.” I had entered prepared to order breakfast but the smell of the place made me think twice. I ordered coffee. The black liquid in the cup was hot and may have been coffee in some previous existence but no longer. I added milk which turn the liquid to a grey sludge. I actually tried to take a sip from the cup but as soon as it touched my lips I had to abandon that effort. HORRIBLE. I rose from my booth just as some man (the owner maybe) emerged from the kitchen. He did not seem at all surprised when I told him that his “coffee” was undrinkable. I declined his offer for...
Read moreMy son used to call this place "The house with the blue roof" when he was young in the late 90's It was THE place to go. They closed for long period of time with covid. While the décor is a little dated, (it looks like you step back into 7os) it still has a retro charm They STILL have the best feta cheese omelets, and the food is still outstanding. Some of the waiting staff is worked there for 20 years!! Rabbi is one and she is delightful! She greets you with a lovely smile. So it is quiet now, not with the grand business it had at once However, I suggest it's worth a visit. The price points are VERY reasonable in comparison to other diners. The food is still fabulous and the sunlight coming into the...
Read moreThis is an institution for most East Norwalkers. Time has done what time does, sparing nothing. BITD, it was a daily gathering place for locals, many still do. I think most of us are loyalists, and traditionalists. The food is good, breakfast is always consistant. The wait staff is great. We go when we're in town, to see our favorite waitress, Debbie. A little powerhouse with a Golden heart, who somehow senses what people are going through at the momen, and adjusts her demeanor to accommodate. She can be uplifting, motivating, show empathy, but always caring, and determined to be the best and do the best for you. Penny's has a place in our hearts, and we visit one or two times a month. Convenient and...
