On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in Oklahoma City

March 3, 2021: Ordered carry-out two chicken fajita family meals. Arrived home and saw that we were missing the fajita portion of our meal - we only received sides. The manager, Byron, had been the one who brought out the food.

I called the store and asked to speak with Byron, and was put on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up and tried again. When I arrived to the restaurant, I asked for Byron - and waited another 25 minutes for him to show his face. “I didn’t know you were here,” he lied. “Is my food ready?” I asked. “It’s been ready for half an hour,” he replied. Why have I been standing here?

During my wait, I witnessed 4 customers return to the store and overheard another on the phone, all with the same complaint: food missing from their order. This isn’t the result of minor errors, or “accidents happen.” This is pervasively obtuse and careless.

In Byron’s presence, I confirmed with the server who I originally spoke with, that they in fact had told him I was waiting for him, to which he repeated his lie, “she didn’t tell me you were here.”

Between driving and waiting, Byron wasted an additional hour of my time, and of several other customers. He insulted me by lying, and undermined his staff by saying she wasn’t telling the truth. Of no consolation whatsoever are the token free cup of queso and $20 in vouchers, which were in his words “for my trouble.” These vouchers will go unused.

I've dined at OTB for years, specifically this location & have the photos & countless merchant charges to confirm as such but tonight sadly was probably the last time I'll patronize this location as it was an absolutely deplorable experience from the moment I called to even attempt to get on the wait list. I was advised that I could or could not leave my name if I chose & "as she stated early they could probably get us in." The service sadly was not far behind, the waitress was short to a portion of party that she was not familiar with yet warm & congenial once other guests arrived that she was familiar with. The manager had a towering, unwelcoming presence in the door of the kitchen almost the entire time outside of when he was not glaring at our group or pacing past with a stony demeanor never once greeting or making any welcoming gesture in our direction. Sadly enough, it was a small, simple dinner to break bread prior to my son heading off to college 14 hours away this weekend & despite selecting what I thought would be the perfect place, his favorite place, it turned out to be a terrible experience so much so I declined ordering & the take out order I planned after my appetizer & cocktail. In addition during times that countless members of our party were shedding tears due to the occasion, the waitress still interjected about orders etc vs apologizing for interrupting or coming back. Never order food delivered from this restaurant! I ordered a “create your own combo” with a chili rellenos, chicken empanadas, and beef empanadas, and of course it comes with rice and beans. I also ordered a bowl of queso, and two sopapillas. I ordered it at 3:22pm, well after the lunch hours, and we’ll before dinner time, the “slow” part of the day. The estimated delivery time was between 4:05-4:25 pm. When that time window passed, the estimated delivery time was changed, and then changed again, in the end being estimated at 5:05-5:25 pm!!! I contacted the delivery service after the second time change, to see what the hold up was, and they contacted the restaurant and verified the order had been prepared and was on its way. That was at 4:38pm. Our food finally arrived just before 5pm. The chili rellenos was the smallest I’ve ever seen, like a short cheese stick and was greasy and cold; the beans and rice were cold, and looked like they had been half eaten! The chicken empanadas were missing, and the beef empanadas were missing! The food actually looked like it was leftovers from someone else’s plate! Disgusting! So disappointing, I’ll never order from them again. They won’t be in business much longer if they keep putting out food that looks like that, and messing up people’s orders that badly.
