I recently visited Plank Provisions in Omaha after receiving a 50% off coupon as part of a promotion showcasing their new menu. Naturally, as a seafood enthusiast, I was all in! I rallied the family for a downtown stroll followed by 5 p.m. reservations.
We had a stroller with us, which gave me a bit of anxiety—first time bringing one to a restaurant. I was fully prepared to run it back to the car, but figured I’d ask if they could accommodate it. When we walked in, I politely asked the hostess if there was a place we could stash the stroller. Without so much as a smile, she replied with, “Do you have a reservation?” I said yes, and she responded, “Okay, ‘cause otherwise I was like…” (??) Definitely not the warm welcome you’d expect from a restaurant that wants to be in the elevated dining category. No guidance was given on the stroller, so we ended up folding it in half and tucking it aside, awkwardly. Not a huge deal, but it set a strange tone.
Now, the food...
We kicked things off with cocktails from the happy hour menu. The Strawberry Surfer was light, fresh, and disappeared fast. My mom thought it was strong—I thought it was perfection. I could’ve had a dozen.
For apps, we went a little wild (no regrets):
Maryland Crab Dip: Rich, decadent, and came with perfectly cooked focaccia. So good, but definitely a shareable—just a few bites will do.
Crispy Rice Cake with Spicy Tuna: Great texture on the rice, though I wanted more heat from the tuna and a punchier sauce. Still a fun bite.
Parker House Rolls: We were skeptical at first—they looked burnt—but it turns out that’s part of their flavor profile. Soft, hushpuppy-esque, and absolutely worth it.
Cacio e Pepe Caesar Salad: The winner. If you love black pepper, this salad is a must. I’d order it again and again.
Calamari: A miss. It was mostly fried crumbles with barely any squid filets. The Mexican-inspired sauce wasn’t my favorite pairing. I’d skip this one.
For entrées:
Scalloped Orzo: The orzo itself could’ve used more cheese to make it rich and gooey, but the scallops? Absolute perfection. Some of the best I’ve ever had.
Walleye with Tapenade: Delicious. The fish was well-cooked, the tapenade added a nice salty bite, and the creamy polenta underneath? Chef’s kiss.
Blackened Mississippi Catfish: Great flavor on the catfish, rice was well-seasoned, and the green beans had that ideal al dente crunch. But the crawfish beurre blanc was a letdown—it barely made it on the plate. I’ve seen photos where it's smothered; ours was barely a drizzle.
Our server was excellent—great timing with refills, cleared plates quickly, and got us the check right when we needed it. Love that.
Despite a rocky start, Plank remains a solid go-to seafood spot in Omaha, with a stylish vibe that works for both casual and special occasions. Grab a bite and enjoy a post-dinner stroll along the riverfront—it’s a...

If you’re looking for a restaurant that not only serves incredible food but also takes exceptional care of guests with dietary needs, look no further than Plank Provisions in Omaha. From the moment I walked in, the management and staff went above and beyond to ensure my dining experience was nothing short of perfect, particularly in accommodating my gluten-sensitive and other dietary needs.
I started with their Happy Hour Oysters, and they were absolutely divine—fresh, briny, and served with a selection of sauces that had the perfect balance of tang and heat. It’s clear that quality ingredients are a priority here, and they really set the tone for what was to come.
For my main, I had the Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos, and they were nothing short of spectacular. The mahi mahi was cooked to perfection—flaky, tender, and bursting with flavor. The tacos were topped with a vibrant slaw and some included a tangy sauce that complemented the fish beautifully. And the best part? I could enjoy every bite without a worry, as the team at Plank made sure my tacos were prepared gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free, adhering to my dietary needs without compromising on taste.
What truly sets Plank Provisions apart is their exceptional service. The management and staff didn’t just accommodate my special requirements; they went out of their way to ensure I had an amazing experience. They were knowledgeable, kind, and made sure that I felt at ease with every aspect of my meal. Their attention to detail is second to none.
The gluten-sensitive menu itself is impressive. It’s rare to find a restaurant that doesn’t treat dietary restrictions as an afterthought, and at Plank, they truly excel in offering a variety of delicious, safe options that don’t sacrifice flavor or quality. Whether you have dietary restrictions or just appreciate great food, Plank has something for everyone.
Overall, my experience at Plank Provisions was nothing short of fantastic. Delicious food, stellar service, and a welcoming atmosphere make this place a must-visit in Omaha. I’ll certainly be returning soon, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining...
Read moreedit went there last night and had an issue. The Star rating hasn't changed from my last visit, but I wanted to point out this is a bonus. Management handled it quickly and efficiently. We left very happy. Also tried more of their happy hour items. Included pictures of their oysters. First set was smaller but the second set was ridiculously huge (which is fantastic). The Wisconsin cheese curds are good but I do prefer the Taphouse ones. However, if you're here they are still a great option. The calamari was much better on this visit with the appropriate crispiness. My last visit, though I didn't mention it, it was lacking a bit. They say they've changed the recipe so hopefully it will be consistent in the future. With this level of service, I'm confident in talking to someone about an issue. They do seem to strive to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Note: if you don't like too much salt, this is a good place. The food flavors shine without the often extra salt thrown in to make sure you taste something. At first I was confused as to why I needed to add it myself but realized it's better for those who want less sodium in their diet.
Came back recently. Happened in happy hour again. Pricing difference is about $2-3 less than the regular menu items. In some cases not a huge savings, but for the soup then the percentage becomes more. Prince Edward island Mussels: perfectly cooked. I have over cooked. Delicious Blackened mahimahi taco: it's a good taco but was missing something. A touch of salt would have helped Fire grilled artichoke: my partner really enjoyed it. I don't see it on the menu often. He ended up ordering 2 Oysters: at $1.25 vs $3.69 each it's a big savings. Their mignonette sauce is better than most, and I like that they serve it with horseradish that had a lot of heat. The oysters were larger than the ones I'm used to at my usual buck'a'shuck place. They gave all the proper toppings (mignonette, horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemon wedges and cocktail sauce).
Service was excellent. Much better than our previous visits. Parking isn't easy, there is some on the street, but can be difficult get to get. They do have large parking lots if you don't...
