I went for the first time tonight, and it will be my last. I am a vegan so ordered the vegan plate. It was expensive but the portions were big. I was with a friend who ordered a meat-based meal. I didn’t even finish my food (because the portions were so big) and waited for her to finish. Immediately after we walked out of the restaurant, I began to feel ill. I was flushed and sweating. I felt nauseous. I sat down for about 10 minutes until I felt the need to vomit. I ran to a trash can and vomited up the baba ganoush and hummus. I had to go home immediately and lie down. It ruined my whole night, and my friend’s night, because we could not enjoy the Immerse festival we had bought tickets for. And now I have a lot of stomach discomfort, with continued nausea. All I can do is lie down, drink water, and wait for it to pass. I’ve never had this sort of adverse reaction before, and I have no allergies. I believe the meal gave me Staphylococcus aureus food poisoning, which can be caused by food left out or left at the wrong temperature. I’ve been extremely healthy and have been isolated other than going out tonight on this rare occasion, so it cannot be an airborne illness; it’s definitely from this restaurant. This was only my third time going into a restaurant since the pandemic began in March 2020. This was just a very bad experience for me, and I feel awful. It’s terrible because I had been looking so forward to going out be enjoying the festival. I question whether safe food handling practices are followed, and I will not visit this...
Read moreI work in downtown Orlando and Olives and it is a half mile walk from my office. I don't go out for lunch much because of the expense and how walking in downtown in the summer is like walking on a stovetop that smells really, really bad. That being said, I walked to Olives to get some food, generally regretting it with each step. It's like 98 degrees outside (the temperature, not the boy band as they combusted in the heat). I got a bowl with falafel, cucumber, tomato and chickpea, and, I thought, what the heck, I paid for hummus. It wasn't cheap ($12), and I as I walked back I thought, "Why did I pay that much for lunch?" (Call me cheap. I usually have an egg sandwich from home or leftovers). But when I sat down to eat in the air conditioned office... totally totally totally worth it and more. I had to call Olives and tell them what a good meal it was. And not skimpy in the least. It was definitely worth the price, in both quality and quantity. Just the right spice so nothing was tasteless, and it was clearly made in-house. The falafels... honestly some of the best I've had. Crispy and not at all greasy. If you haven't tried Olives, please do so. Along with great food, it is very clean and the staffers are very friendly. All...
