First and foremost, do not take this review as me being a hater or a Karen, I simply had much higher expectations. And I understand that the restaurant is currently in a ‘Pre-Open’ phase right now so this review is strictly meant to be constructive criticism. When we entered the restaurant, we were happily welcomed inside by the hostess. The theme of the restaurant is very cozy and enjoyable. We were seated promptly and she took our order. I ordered the Cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, mustard, all the way, and added avocado with a water to drink. My friend wanted to order the Philly Cheesesteak but was told ‘Sorry, we’re currently only serving a limited menu at the moment’ so he ordered a burger as well with American cheese, mustard, no tomatoes or onions, with a water to drink as well. Which having a limited menu is understandable, but why print out the full menu in the first place. All the menus have the words ‘OPENING SOON!’ written diagonally in the middle, so when the restaurant is fully open new menus are going to have to be made anyways so why not make the pre-open menus have only the limited selection. After she was done taking out order, I decided to start a stopwatch simply out of curiosity to see how long things would take. It took 9 minutes and 32 seconds for us to get our waters. Not entirely sure why, granted it was 7 and they were a bit busy, but still, not sure why it took that long. Then a total of 17 and a half minutes go by and we get our plates. Didn’t ask for refills or if we needed anything else, just dropped the food off and continued on her way. Mind you, all the was on the table was salt, pepper, ketchup, and our drinks. The presentation was acceptable but questionable. The burger itself was put together on the plate but all the vegetables were placed on the side of the burger. When the waiter was took our order, she asked us how we liked it (as in what dressing and what vegetables we would like on it), yet all the vegetables were placed on the side. So what was the point in asking how we would like a burger when the vegetables are placed on the side anyways, including the avocado I added. So we assembled the burgers by hand and since there wasn’t any silverware I had to put the avocado onto my burger with my fingers leaving them covered in avocado. Upon inspection of the top bun, there was only about a half of a teaspoon of mustard which isn’t nearly enough to cover, I’m assuming, a half pound burger. Then there are the fries.Sadly they were comparable to the fries you would get in the cafeteria at a school. All of them were soggy as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for almost an hour. Even the burnt fries were soggy. The meat of the burger wasn’t necessarily dry, but it was on the dry side, it could’ve been a little bit juicier. The burger wasn’t seasoned whatsoever, making it slightly bland. Whilst my friend and I were discussing the food, The table next to us could hear everything we were saying because we were less than 5 feet away from each other, which made the restaurant feel a little cramped. They were way too many tables in one area and not enough room do you have a private conversation. All the tables near you can hear everywhere that you’re saying no matter how quietly you talk. Also, only 2 out of the 10 waitresses were wearing masks, the owner wasn’t wearing one either while he was going to all the tables asking how the food was. Again I understand that the restaurant is currently in a pre-open state, and I will be returning in the future once the restaurant is fully open to reconsider my review. This is simply meant to be constructive criticism for the owner/manager to make them aware of things that need to be...
Read moreYesterday we came here because of all the amazing reviews I saw on google, we drove 6 hours and still had a hour left to get to where we was going so my husband and kids were very hungry!
First I am going to say the good things: This place is very cute and clean! The hostess was amazing and even then manger came and checked in on us. But that was after we were talking about leaving cause of how long we waited
Now sadly for the bad: So when we first show up everything is great! We got seated right away and the hostess was so nice! But after that things just went downhill. We waited nearly 15 mins and no one came to address us or get our drink order, there was plenty of waitress/waiter walking around while we were just sitting there looking confused as others who came in after us was already getting their drinks within secs of them being seated. I waved down this sweet older waitress and informed her what was going on and she was hurried to find who out waitress was suppose to be. We waited for a little and the HOSTESS came out to get our drink order and apologized to us. Later on about 5 or so more mins our actual waitress came out and took our food order. (I was wanted to order an appetizer, but because of how long it took and the fact that they never asked I didn’t get to order that). We wait about 20 more mins before we got our food while we are watching all the other waitresses take care of there tables and even talk with their customers. We were never checked on as we waited for our food. We finally get our food Now my kids food was great it was just the kids fish, now I got the ribeye pork chop with green beans and a side salad and my husband got the pork lyon or something along those lines with green beans as well . Both my husband and I could only eat our meat. The pork chop was great! But the green beans were un- edible for both my husband and I. Very over cooked felt like leather in my mouth, I also did get some mashed potatoes as they didn’t have enough green beans to fill my order, those mashed potatoes tasted like sour milk, nothing else :( Now I am a food lover and even if the food isn’t great I would still eat it, so me to complain about my food surprised my husband. My husband was also only able to eat the meat and nothing else as it was tasteless. Also after we got our food our waitress only checked on us once the whole time we...
Read moreCame to check out this place per the recommendation of a colleague. I learned that many folks in the DFW area come to this small town to avoid the lines for drivers permits and licensing for themselves and their children. I also confirmed this interesting phenomenon with the locals. My curiosity of Paris, Texas also took me down a dark path of the history of the town but I'll save that for another time. Don't want to steal any glory from High Cotton.
Anywho, I was fearful of the service and food quality after reading so many of the negative reviews ranging from slow service, to cold food, too rude servers. None of which I experienced during my first visit to this establishment.
We were greeted by a super pleasant hostess with an amazing set of pearly whites that went by the name, Elyzabeth (that's not a typo, she told me her name is spelled with a Y....so adroable, right?!). She almost sat us in an area that appeared to be overcrowded with tables but decided to seat us in what appeared to be a more private area that worked out nicely for my restless legged toddler.
Elyzabeth then called out for our server by name letting him know a table was ready for him. He appeared almost as quickly as she summoned him. His name was Michael. A very pleasant young man. Patient, kind, and strikingly handsome. My son wanted a kids slider but they were out of hamburger meat which was a bit of a bummer but the grilled cheese my son got instead saved the day. He devoured it. Along with the fries.
My wife and I both got the chicken strip dinners with 2 sides each. They chicken strips are soaked overnight in buttermilk and fried in soybean oil and were extremely delicious. The loaded mashed potatoes, as I've read from the owners response to unsatisfied customers, were made of Yukon potatoes and were so creamy and flavorful. I loved it and gave my wife a taste. She agreed.
We capped off our meal, of which we ate maybe 40% of due to the appetizer of fried pickles, with a few dessert items. Michael recommended the Humming Bird Cake to me and my wife had some coconut pie-something (you'll see in the photos).
The 2 hour commute from DFW was worth the trip. We even stopped by the little Eiffel Tower about a mile up the road from this establishment.
I'm glad I wasn't dissuaded by the negative reviews and gave them place a try. 10 out of 10...
