Location: right in the middle of history. I was a little skeptical at first because when I looked at Google’s street view the neighborhood looked sketchy. But it isn’t too bad. I loved walking in either direction and finding some great history. There are a lot of food places in the area but be careful. All food is not made equally and it can be very expensive. Service: The breakfast staff was amazing. They were very attentive and shared a few laughs with those dining. I loved that! Room: they are decent. The room wasn’t as clean as I thought it should have been. There was an old contact lens on the floor, hair in the shower and the tub felt extremely gritty under my feet. Disgusting! We did not have a DND sign so housekeeping tended to the room. Usually I don’t allow them to come in and I was quickly reminded why. They really don’t do anything. The trash was emptied and they folded the toilet paper (I never understood why hotels fold tp!). There was an attempt to make up the bed, but I’m not sure what happened. (See pics) We drank the two Colombian coffee cups. They were replaced with decaf. Halls: have a funky smell Food: free breakfast. The same old “plant made” food they serve at all hotels who offer free breakfast. Overall: I would stay again. I’d make sure to call for a DND sign if it’s missing. I’d bring some extra cleaning supplies.

Hotels for the weekend we were in Philadelphia were extremely expensive so we settled on this hotel based on the good reviews and (relatively) decent price. It was overpriced for what it is, but that’s pretty much the only negative about our experience there. The location was great and we walked everywhere we wanted to go. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. Everything was clean. We didn’t eat any of the cooked egg/meat breakfast items but had yogurt, oatmeal, cinnamon buns and pancake machine. The mini fridge was the biggest we’ve ever had in a hotel room. We got groceries at Trader Joe’s nearby and drinks from the convenience store across the street. The front desk staff were very friendly and polite. The only slight issues we had were that there was one of the three elevators out of order our entire stay, the water in the shower didn’t get super hot, and the pool was closed the full days due to threats of lightning even though the storms weren’t in the area the full day. We would stay again.

We were struck by the friendliness of the cleaning staff. Everyone, each day, spoke to us as if we were family! So very, very different from most hotels where the cleaning staff barely acknowledges your presence! When we had an issue with our mini-fridge upon check in, we informed the desk. By the time we returned later that evening, a new mini-fridge had been installed and a kind note had been left telling us that the problem had been fixed. The room was spacious and well-laid out. Although the bathroom area was tiny, it was functional, clean, and attractive. Personally, I'd rather had a large bedroom/sitting area, and this room had perfect proportions. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly, kind, and quick to help. The sleep quality of the room was excellent, but there was one evening when guests were loud in the hallway. When we mentioned this to the front desk staff, they assured us that had we called and let them know, they would have dealt with the issue. There were the usual big city noises during the night, but that is to be expected. The only thing I would change would be the lighting over the sink. When applying makeup, you tend to lean closer to the mirror. The brightness from the bottom of the light fixture was overly bright and hurt my eyes. That's a very tiny thing, however, and in no way diminished our enjoyment of the room. (Just a note you might want to be aware of.) We enjoyed having the newspaper delivered each day. That was a nice touch. I gave the breakfast 4 stars because of the repeat in what was served over our stay. I do not each hotel breakfasts, but my husband did and made the comment that the menu was not very varied. But again, that did not diminish our enjoyment of our stay. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Philadelphia. A BIG thank you to everyone at the Holiday Inn Express on Walnut Street for making...

UPDATE, another wondetful stay 9/29-30/25! Front desk, again, accommodating, welcoming and friendly. Hugs from the breakfast staff, Antonio and Catherine, who ARE so WONDERFUL. Their memory of guests and the way they make you feel at home is so touching. Love this hotel. Staff, accommodations, cleanliness, great breakfast, reasonable price, walkability make it a truly special place. LOVE it, especially Antonio and Catherine. Missed the ever kind Preston who was on vacation.

From front desk to housekeeping and maintenance this place is fabulous! The front desk employees Kidada, Cynthia and Gwen are so professional, welcoming and friendly. Kidada and Cynthia went above and beyond to accommodate all of my requests. I am not sure if Gwen works the front desk but she was so kind. Rasheda, 20th floor, housekeeping was kind and helpful. She, too, went out of her way to get things just right. My husband is in Philly for surgery and every employee has been more than helpful and kind. Ali, in maintenance, was QUICK to respond to an ac problem. He replaced the ac within 15 minutes with a smile! He was respectful of our privacy and very neat. Kudos to HI for employing Kidada, Cynthia, Gwen, Rasheda and Ali. These employees made such a wonderful impression that this will be my home away from home while in Philly. Very clean, comfortable and great location. I highly recommend!!!

Edit necessary due to WONDERFUL breakfasts and staff. Catherine, Antonio, and Preston are non-stop working and manage to keep everything so delicious clean, and replinished immediately. Their patience, kindness and attention to detail are appreciated. I so admire their ability to keep things running so smoothly. Catherine, Antonio, and Preston may you all be blessed...

First, let me address the cons, because if you can deal with those, then this hotel might be perfect for you.

The parking is atrocious - it is not a "normal" ramp where you can easily park your own car and come and go without delay. We ended up using a ramp about 2 blocks away at 12th and Walnut. It was more expensive to park there, but it was a normal ramp where our vehicle was not blocked in by other cars, and we did not have to deal with a parking attendant that had to move other vehicles before we could get to ours. We arrived at the properly designated check-in time, but our room was not ready yet.

Pros: The alternate parking was close by. Even though our room was not ready at check-in, they have a very nice waiting area, and the staff came and alerted us when the room was ready. We probably waited 30 minutes, but that was due to the fact that we had to wait for a clean room, and we asked for a high floor - in other words, if we were willing to take ANY room, it might have been a shorter wait. The staff was exceptionally kind, and they accommodated our request for a high floor.

The room was clean, but there was a little noticeable wear and tear. Nothing that made us feel "dirty".

The pool deck was fantastic - outdoor pool located on the 7th floor. We did not use the exercise facilities, but they were nicer than many hotels with a view to the outside.

The hotel is within walking distance of city hall, Independence Hall / the Liberty Bell, tons of restaurants, convenience stores, including CVS, Target, Wawa, etc.

IF you are planning on parking and then walking, or using public transportation, this would be perfect. If you plan on using your own vehicle to get around, you might want to consider a...
