So me and my family a party of 5 adults 2 children came to mamajuana in plainfield on 8/20 around 4pm to be exact we got seated right away. We asked our waiter about a happy hour menu being that its advertised on the site and social media. The waiter didnt understand i guess it was a language barrier so he went to get someone else and that person told us there is only happy hour for food and honest shouldve got up and left from there but we stayed so the second waiter became confused and went to get someone else and that person told us they dont have happy hour but they do have a buy one get one for lemon drops okay whatever we order our drinks two lemon drops, one blossom lychee, one rivers breeze, and one picante passion and immediately after we order food two oxtail meals with white rice, one stuffed salmon with a side of beans, one shrimp penne pasta, one red snapper, one chicken and fries, one calamari and two mozzarella sticks. We waited 40 minutes for drinks. Waitress bring over the the drinks and the two lemon drops tasted like soda and they were red so my sister asked if they were flavored and he replied yes which was a red flag because we didnt order that. So we sent that back then she ordered prosecco and st germain which is one drink its made together its not a drink you make separately right remember that for the end when we received out bill. Now the food is here at 5:08pm and here is where the shenanigans really began so the two oxtails came out with regular rice instead of white which is what was requested, the shrimp penne pasta was in fact shrimp penne vodka which is a different sauce not what was ordered and the two appetizers mozzarella sticks and calamari was the very last things to come out and the calamari was completely hard and we had to send that back which left my daughter only with mozzarella sticks and the wait time was so long to just receive drinks we didnt want to wait longer for more food so i shared my pasta with her. Now the bill come and they charged us $347 and prosecco and st germain was charged as $26 for ONE glass i know you lying we been to mama jauna before the west ny location to be exact and we never paid that for prosecco and st germ. The service here was horrible i would never recommend this location to anyone and it was maybe 6 customers inside the restaurant beside us. The waitress was upset and rolling his eyes and snatched the bill from my sister hand and we just wanted to get out of there cause it was giving very much racism in there we were the only African American people inside the restaurant as well and when we requested to speak to a manager no one ever came over to assist with the issues we were experiencing so yes I decided to make a reviee based off what me and my family experienced and the day started off a good day we had just came from wedding dress shopping at Seng Couture in north plainfield and had an amazing time only to come to mamajauan and waste $347 what a joke of a place 0/10

First of all, the cost is NOT over $100 a person. Mamajuana is a little more upscale than most of the restaurants in downtown Plainfield and some of the reviewers on here seem to have some issues with that. We had a very good experience tonight at Mamajuana. It was refreshing to have this type of restaurant with a lot of seating and a full bar in Plainfield as there are not many establishments like that here. I hope there will be more businesses like this to come to Plainfield. We are a diverse community and we should be welcoming of many diverse types of establishments. Our server Debbie was outstanding. She chatted with us and told us a lot about the business. She was extremely welcoming and professional. From the bar I had two beers and my partner had a Manhattan. He was very happy with his cocktail. For food I ordered a stuffed whole fish. It was stuffed with other seafood and rice. Yes, it really was a whole fish including the head which seems to freak some people out but eating a whole fish is very typical for a lot of cultures. I enjoyed my fish a lot. And it’s presentation was great. My partner had a steak with rice and beans and said it was very good as well. I am very happy to have a place like this in Plainfield. I will definitely walk from my house to just even hang out at the bar for a drink or two. I plan to do just that very soon. Plainfield deserves businesses like this. I hope we will support it.

New spot in Plainfield is definitely a great vibe. Food was made to order, drinks were on point and service was phenomenal. Demi treated us like family. The decor is the best that I've seen throughout the franchise. Went to celebrate my wedding anniversary and saw a few families celebrating birthdays. Great place for after work drinks and apps. Parking is plentiful in the back. The place is spacious with two bars on the first floor and three floors for your dinning experience.

Probably the WORST service I have ever received. Upon walking into an empty host stand, we waited a few minutes while the one server on duty and bartender chatted amongst each other and looked at us confused. I understand it was a slow Monday night (12/16/24), but we were nowhere near the closing time. Once the host decided to come seat us, we were sat a table. She took our drink order and once those were delivered, she asked if we wanted any apps. We ordered a LARGE $40 appetizer, and once we received that, she never came back to ask for our entree order. Once we were done with the appetizer, we requested to put in entrees, and she looked confused. She walks away with an attitude and goes into kitchen. After some time, she comes back to the table to tell us they are only doing appetizers. (This could have been said from the beginning, and we would have been okay and maybe went somewhere else). English was not her first language, but half of us at the table spoke Spanish so that was not an issue. We put in some other appetizers, and she was NOT happy about that even thought that was what was offered. The appetizers come out super-fast, and it showed with the quality of the food. We order another round of drinks, to which she once again, rolls her eyes, and heads to give the order to bartender. Once we finish, in a timely manner, we request the bill. She took our cards without dropping the bill and goes to close out. I had to request an itemized receipt. We were charged for an extra appetizer we did not order. (Had the service been somewhat decent, I would've not said anything). I did speak up and request they removed that from check, but she stated she would have to do a full refund on cards and charge again. She then offered to give us the cash but came back and said she could not do that either. I kindly requested they just settle the difference with drinks. They did give us a round of shots, once it was all said and done. But overall, the service was garbage. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and the restaurant was fairly empty. I have extensive history working in the industry, so I am well aware of service flow and customer service. THIS WAS NOT IT. The gratuity was already added on top of everything else and I chose not to dispute it. I am a big fan of Mamajuana, but this location has lowered the standard for this restaurant chain. Sticking to the Woodbridge location where I have gone multiple times and never...

Came for a Sunday brunch and won’t be back. The place is nice clean and well decorated and the music was good. But from the moment we sat down the music was blasting way too loud to the point you couldn’t even talk to the person sitting next to you and the bass was so strong that the silverware was moving on the tables. I like a party and good music but it was just too much. The drinks come pre-mixed and tasted like a headache waiting to happen because of how much sugar they had, so I was happier to pay extra for a drink from the bar than drinking the brunch drinks. The food was good but the plates were dessert-sized plates. I understand they are trying to save money but I was surprised how blatantly obvious they were with having a brunch buffet with the tiny plates. The biggest issue I had was that there was a family there with a small baby and other children as well. While I do understand they cannot control what people do with their children, a place that will not allow people in for wearing uggs or crocs (their dress code posted on their social media page) should also not allow people with small children where people will be smoking hookah all around them and music blasting in their ears. It was not only completely inappropriate but also very sad to see. I raised my concern to the manager who said they will be hosting family brunches on Saturday and party brunches on Sunday - I truly hope they follow through with this and don’t allow small children or babies during the...
