Tucked away in the back corner of this shopping center is a Chinese restaurant that blew away my expectations. I went there on a Thursday night and expected it to be a ghost town, but it was surprisingly filled. Not packed to where it would be unpleasant, but enough people to let me know something was up. And surely enough, after trying the food, I understood why so many people were there.
I started with the egg drop soup, which had a nice deep umami flavor to set the tone. Next I tried my standard meal to test a Chinese restaurant: orange chicken with fried rice. The rice was cooked well with nice garnish of egg and garlic, but the real start was the orange chicken. Every bite was succulent, and I could tell they put time into refining the recipe. The flavor profile was a lovely balance of the sweetness from the orange itself (the dish was garnished with real orange peels) and the heat from the chilis. It was the perfect amount of heat for me ā enough to add to the flavor profile but not so much it became overpowering. I finished my meal with what has got to be this placeās piece de resistance: chocolate soup dumplings.
The chocolate soup dumplings are to die for. They are worth a two hour drive to get to this place. Given this place literally has dumpling in their name I had high hopes, and they exceeded them. The chocolate soup dumplings look like any other soup dumpling, but when you bite into them you are greeted with a rush of molten chocolate that is rich and creamy. These things are crack, I recommend getting one order per person!
Overall this restaurant blew my expectations away. The staff was also very friendly, the atmosphere was nice, but the food was the star. I plan on making this place one of my...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePre-Covid shutdown the service varied from good to bad, no in between. I remember there was one situation where I went to dine in with my mom and sister. I ordered food that didnāt come out even after I reminded them twice in a 40 min span of time. There was a guy who asked me if I still wanted my food even though I told them to cancel it.
During Covid shutdown- I spent a lot of money here and the delivery was great. Food didnāt have this weird after taste of vinegar.
Post Covid shutdown- the food just tasted sour. I donāt know if they got a new cook, used different ingredients, or whatever but it wasnāt what it was. The soup dumplings- chicken and mushroom- had a vinegar after taste and smelled like acetone. The hot and sour soup, which was delicious and just the right amount of hot and sour, went from great to extremely unpleasant. The last time I ordered from here, the hot and sour soup gave me indigestion and Iāve had to take acid reflux pills ever since. The vinegar in my hot and sour soup literally burned my throat going down. I tried a couple more sips just to make sure I wasnāt imagining what it tasted like, and every single spoonful (3 spoonfuls) was the same. I ate the soup dumplings after- same deal. I had to throw out all of the food ($45 w/ tip), which was unfortunate because it was expensive and the portions werenāt great.
Iāve never gone back since which is sad because they had great food and I always recommended this place, especially since they came through during shutdown. Iāve gone back to my old family owned little hole in the wall where the quality of food and service has always been great-...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI dislike giving negative reviews bc negative reviews could impact business owners bread and butter but a negative review is needed when the food they serve is detrimental to people's health. We decided to try this place out after some friends recommended it. They did caution me that they some of our mutual friends recently ate here and got food poisoning. We decided to give it a shot anyway bc we assumed maybe it was something else they ate that caused it. Worst assumption ever! We ordered a couple of orders of fried dumplings, soups and steamed dumplings. We happily ate throughout the entire meal and not focused on our food bc we had 2 infants with us that we had to attend to. On the last dumpling, my friend's husband had a tough time chewing a piece of the pork. Turns out it was a tendon. It wasn't until we examined the dumpling fillings (bc no one really examines the fillings of the dumplings...you typically just eat it in one bite) that we discovered the pork was uncooked. It wasn't just uncooked...it was RAW. It was BLOODY RED and didn't even look like it was partially cooked. The manager comped ONE order of the fried dumplings but the damage is done and I'm praying none of us gets sick from consuming raw pork. I am praying the owners reads this message and understand that they really need to be considerate of other people's health and pay closer attention to the food they serve. Luckily I did not take my 2.5 year old daughter with us to dinner tonight bc knowing myself, I would have persuaded her to...
