This was our first time visiting Dos Amigos, and while the food was decent, the overall experience left much to be desired.
When we entered, we were greeted and told to sit wherever we liked. However, when we paused to decide, the staff shouted again, as if we needed a reminder or weren’t being obedient.
We started with chips and salsa, but the chips were mostly broken pieces, and the salsa was served in a tiny dish—not the most welcoming start. Menus took a while to arrive, and while there were plenty of options, we noticed a lot of upcharges for basic accompaniments.
We ordered the chicken fajitas and the burrito macho with steak. The burrito was impressively large, and the steak was well-seasoned. The chicken fajitas arrived steaming hot, but it took several minutes before we received the tortillas, which was frustrating. The chicken itself was tender and flavorful, but the rice was dry and mealy, and the beans were bland.
We were sharing our dishes, and when we asked for extra plates, the staff seemed annoyed or confused. In fact, most of our requests were met with either confusion or aggression. The atmosphere felt tense, particularly when the busser, who seemed intimidated, was being pushed around and not allowed to assist where needed.
It seemed like our server might also have been the manager or owner, as they were handling the entire restaurant, which created a chaotic and unpleasant vibe. For example, we weren’t informed there would be an additional $1.25 charge for more tortillas (you only get three initially). While the cost isn’t the issue, I expect to be told upfront when there’s an extra charge for something.
When the check arrived, it was placed in a tray with a pen but no explanation of what we were supposed to do. It appeared they wanted us to fill out the receipt before running our card, likely to control card processing fees. While this practice is common at counter-service restaurants with tablet tipping, it felt unusual for a sit-down restaurant. Without any upfront explanation, it created confusion and forfeited the opportunity to thank guests or offer a final chance for additional sales. When we placed the card in the tray without filling out the receipt, the explanation of what was expected was delivered in an impatient and annoyed tone, adding to the discomfort.
After asking for boxes to take home leftovers, we had to separately request a plastic bag. Upon leaving, we noticed we were charged $18.95 for the chicken fajitas, even though the menu listed them at $17.95. Again, it wasn’t the extra dollar—it was the poor communication.
Overall, while the food was good—particularly the steak burrito and chicken fajitas—I can only recommend Dos Amigos with reservations. Be prepared for inconsistent service, unexpected charges, and a generally...
Read moreI had the worst experience at this restaurant and would not recommend anyone to go there. I recently purchased a silent auction item for charity at an event that my company sponsored and the silent auction basket that I purchased included $80 worth of gift certificates to this restaurant. My sweet sister was killed on March 4, 2018 and with the upheaval of my life and my family's lives I didn't realize my gift certificates had expired. I called the restaurant and spoke to the owner and explained my situation and asked if he could please honor the certificates since they were donated by him and since I did purchase it for charity. The owner was extremely rude to me and finally said he could only honor $40 of the amount. When my friend and I arrived for lunch, the owner was very rude once again and made me explain everything to him again as if he had not just spoken to me. He then started to complain about the organization that he donated the certificates to and stated they were not supposed to put all of the certificates for one person. He made me feel very uncomfortable and acted as if I received the certificates free of charge. The bill came andcthere was a difference of $8 to be paid by me and he made me pay the difference instead of politely using the rest of the certificates. He also took the other $40 in certificates. My experience was horrible and I almost just paid the full bill and not even eat the food. The good was also not good. But service is very important to me and for a small business I look to the owner as a reflection of the business and this owner was the worst and most unkind person I have ever met. I will never step into that restaurant again and recommend others do not either. How can a person donate to charity but not really mean for it to be charity but only for business promotion? Horrible...
Read moreTHE ABSOLUTE BEST, BEST, I MEAN BEST salsa and guacamole I have ever had, and I love Mexican food, so I have had a lot. Seriously some of the absolute best Mexican food I have ever eaten! You all do it right here. My wife and I went here for the first time for my birthday and have kept coming back again and again. We truly look forward to eating here again! I realized I had to come back and add more to this review because the prices are freaking amazing for the portion sizes. I honestly just can't say enough at how amazingly good this food tastes. I'm actually getting hungry right now thinking about it and I noticed that you open at 11am so I might be up there for lunch!! Also, I noticed while reading some of the other reviews, that if for some reason someone was crazy enough to not give them 5 stars, the owners replied asking how they could gain 5 stars on their next visit. I've been in sales and customer service for over 30 years and this shows to me a mastery of perfection in your approach to your customers and your business! I love that you are not satisfied with less than a 5 star rating and that you would ask how to improve it. In all my years of experience that just shows me that you are over and above in caring about your business and your customer's experience. For that reason alone I will do everything in my power to promote the hell out of...
