This review is specifically regarding the owner. My partner and I came in today to eat at around 11:30am. I could tell our waiter was new, but regardless, Will did a great job. We had a drink delivered that was incorrect and he took responsibility, saying that he heard a key word and thought it was a different drink. No problem. Free drink. After 30 minutes of waiting for our food, my partners meal was brought out. Five minutes later, I was told that they were out of the key lime puree for my key lime pancakes. I was actually brought the puree-less pancakes with no eggs and bacon. I told the waiter that the margarita infused puree was a large part of the reason that I ordered the dish and that I would have no problem finding something else. We ended up cancelling because of wait time. Now, this was just my set of issues. As we waited we noticed other tables having issues such as hollandaise sauce being replaced with gravy, and other incorrect orders coming out of the kitchen. The three wait staff on duty did an incredible job of handling these issues as they arose, but what stuck with me was the inability of the owner (very clear by the blue cocktail dress and condescending way she spoke to the staff) to provide assistance or to interject herself into any of these situations as they arose with customers. We had a drink delivered incorrectly after 15 minutes of waiting and a dish had to be canceled because they were lacking a primary ingredient on one of their spotlight dishes. At no point did we hear from Brittany as she walked by our table multiple times. As someone who has spent plenty of time in the service industry, I have a hard time blaming any of this on the wait staff. It was clear to myself (and I think anyone else dining alongside us) that this owner was providing a terrible example of leadership by allowing her staff to flail and be affected by issues that should only be the role of managers and owners to fix. To make things worse, while I am going without food because a primary ingredient is missing, the owner has the AUDACITY to be gorging a full sandwich meal by the POS station directly in our view. I can only understand this as spiteful or completely ignorant. When I called her on the phone to discuss, she described her eating a meal as "incredibly pressing business" that I should understand as someone who works in the service industry. I have absolutely no room in my heart or head for ownership that will let their employees (especially new employees) flail like this and take responsibility for things that have gone wrong that could only have been in the eyes of upper management. I ask that you spend your hard earned money with any of the other fantastic breakfast establishments within a 5 block radius that may have any better chance to treat their staff (and customers) with even and inkling of respect or even basic human attention. After keeping her head down as she passed our table several times throughout the meal, the final straw for me was the ease at which she was able to say "have a great day!" on our way out the door, after our waiter had attempted to take full responsibility for the bad experience -- something he never should have been made to do.
Shame on you. I hope your staff is able to have better leadership in the future. I hope this helps you to identify areas where you can improve. I will not...
Read moreFirst of all, I’ve looked at other negative reviews and noticed that the management is really good at responding to them but clearly has made zero effort to address the issues even though they repeatedly claim they will.
We walked in at 2:15 pm to a nearly empty restaurant and no one working the host station. I get that you’re closing in 45 minutes but it’s not like we showed up 5 mins before closing time. Finally the young lady who would be our waitress called out from the bar area that someone would come out and help us. That happened after a 6 minute wait.
As we were being walked to our table, we passed several other tables covered in unbussed dirty dishes. Plus, the entire floor was so sticky my shoes were squeaking like a mouse in a trap. This should have been our biggest warning that the place is poorly run.
My coffee came lukewarm, but I did eventually get hot coffee after requesting it. Sadly, this seemed to be a recurring theme because our eggs benedict also came out lukewarm, and even more criminal— not runny, almost hard boiled. You’d think that a restaurant where literally half the breakfast items are some form of eggs benny would have the technique nailed down. Since our waitress never came to check on us after the food came, we couldn’t pass this on and because we waited a ridiculous amount of time for our food, we were not about to send it back. One small positive— the food tasted ok.
We eventually did see our waitress again— at check time, at which point we very pleasantly pointed out the overcooked egg thing and that she might want to mention it to someone. She seemed more taken aback that we would mention it rather than offering her concern or some kind of compensation, maybe a comped beignet or something. Also, I should point out that a manager was sitting two tables away from us doing the books and surely overheard us, but it’s not like our waitress passed on our comments to him anyway.
As a side note, throughout our visit fresh-faced teens kept coming in and out of the kitchen for no apparent reason other than looking around. It seems like clearing off the dirty tables was not on their agenda.
I had high hopes for this place as it only has 4 locations so you’d think it would be a labor of love. Alas, it is run as indifferently as a fast food joint, teens and all.
I’ll end on an another slightly positive note: when we did see her, and before we shared about the overcooked eggs, our waitress was very pleasant.
Owners of this place— go to Homegrown so you can see how a brunch place should be run. I look forward to what is sure to your platitudes and unfulfilled promises to...
Read moreToday I took my son here. He is 8 and school will be starting soon. I took an opportunity to spend quality time with him. I am so disappointed in myself for not speaking up and saying something while there (been in service industry my whole life so I don’t want to inconvenience anyone especially if there isn’t anyone checking on us and now completely regret it) I got coffee he got chocolate milk the server seemed extremely new and unprepared to be taking care of tables himself. He took our drink order. Took our food order and didn’t check again until we asked for the check and boxes. I ordered a shrimp Benny. My son got a blta we have never been here before so we had no idea what to expect but the pictures online looked fantastic! I paid 16.99 for bread and shrimp and sauce. No side so I figured maybe it didn’t come with one? The food was not very good and Luke warm. But since our server was not present it was kind of hard to say anything about it. The bourbon pancake side we got were AMAZING and I thought 4.99 was a good price. I asked the server if we could possibly get a side of cinnamon roll French toast! It sounded fantastic. It was good. Smaller portion than the pancakes and it was 12.79? For 3 small slices? The receipt said that my meal was suppose to come with a side the server just opted to put “no side” I’m so disappointed. The best thing about the experience was being greeted and sat by a lady that seemed to be training someone. Very polite and nice warm and friendly. Then once leaving being told to have a good day by a couple people in front. I hate giving bad reviews. But I am not happy about spending nearly $65 + tip and having to stop by McDonald’s on the way home and spend more money cause the food was not good and I essentially paid for food that I never got. I work hard for my money as do most. This was suppose to be one on one time with my son to enjoy before school starts without his brothers. And I’m sorry for the bad review. I hate leaving negative reviews. It was just...
