Ok… lemme wipe my forehead for this one lol. So, it was my lady that picked this one out. I was in the brunch mood and dint want to stay local so I decided to venture out. Told the family to pick and if it looks good we’ll go… sheeesh!! Thank GOODNESS I did. Because yoooo!! First off. It’s in Sac, not far from the immediate downtown. Which means it’s always poppin. There was a line but not ridiculously long or anything. The weather was perfect for outdoor seating so we sat outside. Hostes was mad sweet and polite. In fact, the entire staff was supper polite and inviting. Now. To the aesthetics. The overall look was modern, upbeat and lively. Which is what I’m usually looking for in a brunch type of deal. Nice wall art, some great decor and a little hint of classic diner nostalgia thrown in the mix. My one and only real caveat to this place was that the restrooms are out of the building and slightly down the way. BUT it’s understandable due to the fact that the building is a shared commerce type of space with appartments on top. Now. Let’s talk eats. 😁 I the menus is pretty good for what they have and not complicated. Literally everything looks good from their social media post so. Hey. When in Rome. So I was really conflicted on what to get. I eventually settled on the Southern Brunch, which allowed me to sample a bit of everything. It came with 5 pork chops. Or wings or tenders. I chose chops, it had southern potatoes, a side salad, Mac n cheese, mini waffles, and my favorite shrimp and grits. I was legit in sensory overload looking at tha plate. Soo good nice and juicy chops. Mac n cheese was cheeses and gooey, shrimp and grits were perfect. Not too thick or too runny. Potato’s well seasoned. My lady got the Mini chicken and waffles. That in itself looked soo good you wouldn’t even wanna eat it. I’ve gotta be real. This place did their THING with presentation and I can honestly say it wasn’t lackin in flavor either. My angle daddy’s girl got the Salmon/Lobster grits. And BOOOY lemme tell you they give you a healthy serving. The dish was bigger than her lmao!! 😂🤣 seriously. My immediate response to that dish was. “Yup… Dad’ll be helping you with that” lol. And help I did lol. My son is pretty basic with things. He got the breakfast burrito. Which he almost definitely wasted no time destroying.. we also ordered a flight of margaritas fo the grown folk 😏 and I also ordered a side of hashbrowns along with a Irish Crème latte. HELLA hood. Frfr. 🥹🤤. There’s soo much more on that dang menu I wanna try. Please believe I will be going back. My stomach was on TILT!! We all had to walk it off because sheeesh!!! . Definitely a must if you’re in the city. I’ll more than likely do some professional shots on my next visit. It’s photo worthy and belly...
Read moreAs a sac local, we tried out this new spot in Sacramento. First of all, homeless people were across the street. I was a little scared parking my car since one spot available was near their tent. It’s sad but there needs something to be done in downtown Sacramento for restaurants to gain customers without having to deal with homeless people. I could see this will impact the restaurants within the area because people will be scared to go.
As I walked into the restaurant, I could sense the strong bleach smell. It was so strong but as we set longer in the restaurant either the smell didn’t bother us or disappeared as they opened their doors fully.
We were a big party, we waited before we could get seated despite half the restaurant were empty. I do remember they said, we’re short on staff. Anyways, they open doors at 9am and I was there by 9.15am. So we waited for a while to get our table. Luckily, second time when I asked to be seated they helped set-up our table.
Oh man, our waitress couldn’t get our drink order correct. She kept repeating and still couldn’t write correctly. It was funny, she brought the drinks but different ones. She didn’t even bother to say oh we ran out do you want different flavors. She came out with completely different flavors. I wander if she made a mistake. Also, she forgot two drinks despite writing and asking several times. It was simple, 2 mango, 3 huckleberry and 2 orange mimosas.
The restaurant needs to have a drink menu with flavors. The server didn’t know what other flavors were there.
We ordered our food at the same time as our drinks. We were happy the food came out fairly fast. Oh lord, my order was messed up. I said no, bacon and it came with bacon and hash browns. I wanted house potatoes. My sister-in-law ordered egg Benedict with bacon and hash brown and guess what her entree came with house potatoes. It was a disaster. We just asked for extra plates so we can switch out ourselves without more complications. I hope they didn’t have more mix ups throughout the day.
Food- I found the houses potatoes overly dried but the egg Benedict came with delicious onions. That was...
Read moreShort version: Skip this place! Give it a while for them to work out the kinks and see if they last, then come back (that is our plan).
We sent a whole dish back because it was cold and dry. Owner/chef came out, apologized and brought me another cold, even dryer chiliquiles. Barely any toppings, had to hunt for chorizo, and veggies were raw, which takes away from the overall texture of the meal. Grits had no seasoning or love, eggs had nothing to it. Mimosa flight for $25 was more like samples. Chicken and waffles looked pretty and fruit was fresh, Not sure if the chicken was actually good or if we were just hungry after the long wait and returned dishes. Food looks as pictured - that is it, it ends there. You would be better off imagining the flavor and saving your money.
Husband ordered chicken and waffles, I ordered chiliquilles. It took extremely long for our orders to come out - long enough for us to talk sports, the release of Andre 3000 album after 17 years, the Badu Box curse, and do some people watching.
We weren't brought silverware or waters.
Owners are nice though, although given the issues and the fact that I sent my food back twice and had to share my husbands plate just to eat, our meals should have been comped and only charged for the drinks. But nope. Husbands meal of Chicken and waffles, side of grits, and scrambled eggs with mimosa flight was over $50.
On the way out, our feelings were confirmed with multiple groups recapping their bad experience and high hopes that came crashing down. I stopped to talk to a couple of the ladies who also said their food was a long wait for cold, bland, but pretty food they didn't finish or enjoy.
On second thought, we probably wont be back. There really wasnt much positive that made it stand out. I would be open to giving more specific feedback to the owners if they see this and want...
