If you’re searching for the best seafood restaurant in San Antonio, look no further than Bayseas Seafood on Culebra! A soulful Southern twist, specializing in mouthwatering catfish, shrimp, oysters, gumbo, and more. As a local foodie always on the hunt for top-notch fried seafood near Alamo Ranch, I was blown away by their quality, cleanliness, and friendly service—making it a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Texas seafood.
From the moment I walked in, the spotless environment stood out. Unlike some greasy spoons, Bayseas Seafood Restaurant doesn’t have that overpowering fishy smell; it’s immaculately clean and inviting, perfect for families or a casual lunch. The staff greeted me with genuine Texas hospitality, checking in multiple times to ensure everything was perfect. Their menu is packed with crowd-pleasers like catfish dinners, shrimp and oyster platters, po-boy sandwiches, and even soul food favorites for those mixing it up.
I went for the Fish and Shrimp Platter (a classic catfish and shrimp combo with fries), and it was spot on! The fresh catfish fillets were huge, golden-fried to perfection without being oily, and honestly, I got more than expected—generous portions that left me with plenty of leftovers. The shrimp were plump and crispy, but the real surprise was the coleslaw: crisp, cold, and clearly made fresh right before serving. In Texas, great coleslaw isn’t always a given, but they nailed it. I considered sides like hushpuppies, fried okra, and onion rings round out the meal— but, the fries went with what I had beautifully
AND, I hear their gumbo is legendary (Next time!).
I didn’t even get to try their famous flounder or desserts like sweet potato pie and peach cobbler this time, but I’ll be back soon, but for a lunch special, my meal was even too much for me!
I say BEST fried catfish in San Antonio. BaySeas delivers exceptional value and taste.
Highly recommend Bayseas on Culebra for anyone in the area. Go try it today—you won’t be disappointed! Five stars all the way for this standout seafood spot in San...

I normally go to the one in Converse & someone told me that things were great here now...(since back in the 90's, this was our go to place...when you could go and pick the fish from the ice).
I moved away for 18 years and when I moved back this place had changed. I have gone back four times after my original disappointing purchase since I have moved back three years ago. The sides are tasteless, the seasons for the fish is as well.
I asked for a boneless fish & we received a bone filled trout. One time we asked for onion rings as a side and received 4 rings... lol. And they were greasy and tasteless.
Again, it's my fault for giving them my 50.00 bucks. I should HAVE asked for one filet so that way, the loss wasn't as much..we threw all of the fish away.
One great thing was that chocolate cake! Geez, it almost reminded me of the SAISD Wednesday Chocolate cake if my youth. Now this is worth coming back for! The seafood - not so much. Also the young lady who answered the phone said she had just started and was...
