Considering it.is Southern California, it can be hard to find good Mexican places, but every once an awhile you find a gem. This place, although the service was decent, considering short staff, the food is incredible. I know people complain about the service, but to their credit they are extremely busy and short staff, so I ask, please come in and be ready to taste some great food, but be patient, after all the best food tends to take longer to make. I had the Bistec a La Mexicana. The rice was perfectly cooked, soft,. flavorful. The beans had a great smokey flavor to them and the meat was cooked a delicious tomato, jalapeño, onion, garlic and chicken broth that had a superb balanced flavor. The meat were small cuts but presented with an great portion to serve. The tortillas were hand made, filling and delicious. Fortunately and unfortunately, I had some of the barbacoa. Unfortunately, because I did not order it, and fortunately because it was delicious, paired with salsas and consume, cannot beat. My only qualm with this place is they should have Mexican...
Read moreThe food was good but the service was horrible by far the worst experience. No one greeted us, the waitress just dropped off the menus made no eye contact walked away without saying anything or offering anything to drink. After "we" asked for something to drink she took forever and when she gave us our waters she didnt even bother handing us straws. The food was really good but the staff was horrible, the waitress had an attitude and just nodded at us when we asked for something or when asking a question seemed to me like she hates working their or something the vibe she gave off was a hurry up and order so I can end my shift. My wife waved at her to ask for the check she looked at us dead in the eye and ignored us. Im not the type to be negative when going out to eat but the nerve on this waitress left me speechless. Adriana the waitress needs to take some etiquitte courses it appears her upbringing in life...
Read moreAwesome taste, my favorite is the 1 pound lamb meat (barbacoa) with the hand made tortillas and the bowl of consome (lamb stew with garbanzo beans). They always get it just right! This is the place for barbacoa. Their warm tlacoyos filled with refried beans have that especial taste 😋 that brings me back home every single time, then to top it all off with an ice cold Michelada and we are all good 👍 The strip mall location is not the prettiest one of the city but the food makes it worthwhile. Just don't bring your high class stuck up girlfriend or mother in law because I know they will criticize the neighborhood, the restaurant and the clientele. Good place to bring your work buddies and your good looking but not stuck up buchona girlfriend. El Borrego Sagrado #1 in Main street is a smaller restaurant and very popular and they are the predecessor of the second one. Family owned restaurants are the best...
