Pono Burger — Restaurant in Santa Monica

Pono Burger in Santa Monica is possibly some of the best food you will find in this part of town and you would be doing your tastebuds a disservice if you did not visit here at least once!

Pono is fantastic because there really is something for everyone- whether you are Vegan, Vegetarian, Carnivore, On a Diet, Eating Your Weight in Deliciousness... they got you covered! Make sure to come here with plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant and really sample a variety of the menu. That means stretchy pants!! I brought my Mum with me and we started off nice and simple with the Ponzu Avocado Dip and House Made Purple Chips. Super fresh, very tasty and creamy in the way only a perfectly ripe Avocado can be! Next up- the Superfood Croquette. Very interesting flavour and it paired beautifully with the sauce plus it wasn't greasy in the slightest which was a lovely surprise. For our Main dishes, Mum ordered one of the Salads (very fresh) and I had the Papale Burger from their Specials Menu. Omigod this thing was incredible! It had a jalepeno popper stuffed with cheese, crispy onions, an extremely moist and tasty beef patty, crispy bacon and the most delicious sauce! I died and went to heaven! I hope they add this burger to their regular menu as it is RIDICULOUSLY amazing!

Before the Pandemic I used to come here all the time. This rest. is not that far away from my place and even though the prices are a little high I like to get burgers from here once in a while. Starting from the positive , the quality of the food is good. Most of the items on the menu are fresh. The only issue with this place is the service. It seems like they are not paid well enough. Most of the time they are in a bad mood . It is not just one but many staff members have treated me like they are having a bad day. So I guess they are not treated right as well. Today I had the worst experience I ever had in this location. I walked in and I was the only customer which made me think that they would put all their effort into my order. So the first thing I see the cashier looking at his phone right in front of me. The guy did not even noticed I was there. I was afraid to interrupt him because I had no idea if he was the one that was going to take my order. When he finally realized I was there I was able to make my order. I specifically told him to make sure my order was right since I was traveling far from the restaurant. Well no, even though there were not any other clients my order was wrong. They served me the wrong type of burger. A completely different one. He ended up voiding the transaction and I ended up without any interest in eating at the moment . If there’s such a thing as a healthy burger place, this is it in Santa Monica! Our server was super attentive and we were sat and given menus straight away. Restroom was super clean and unexpectedly stylish. We ordered the following with comments to the side: Chili beed nachos: small portion, maybe sloppy if I can say that? Definitely not worth the price of I think $13.50

We got a couple different burgers at least, plain with some cheese. Burgers were delicious and placed on a great bun. All produce was fresh and it was hard to not dream of ordering another!

Cajun Chx Salad: good, fresh, kinda stingy on the Chx proportions given..

The fries were great. True shoestring fries with a snazzy side dressing, like some type of aioli that made me eat everyone else’s fries!

Also ordered the chx tenders which were good but a really small portion.

They had a handful of beer and ciders, hard kombuchas, and a happy hour from 3-6p daily where some drinks were $5 vs the regular @ $7.

Totally liked this place and will definitely be back to try some more things. I saw some things on the menu like a salmon burger and some other things that seemed to be quasi-fusion-food with Asian flavors (ponzu sauce for instance on one of them burgers).
